Daily Inspiration: Meet Smokey Loc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Smokey Loc.

Hi Smokey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been playing instruments and singing since I was four years old. Which I did for a long time until my family broke up and I took myself into the streets and spent a lot of time behind bars, from juve to county to state prison. A friend of mine was making music and opening up for ppl such as Nipsey Hussle and etc. and I thought it was a perfect opportunity to get back to what I’m good at. Which led to me traveling around doing what I love the most.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The Jails and the streets were my biggest struggles my whole life but I’m doing pretty good with leaving that alone at this point in my life. The thing I probably struggle with the most these days is depression and my mental health. My father passed away not too long ago and he is extremely important to me. It was during COVID so I couldn’t even be with him until his last few minutes of life, and he passed in my arms and I lost a lot of people in life but something also died in me and I haven’t been the same since.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a hip hop/rnb artist by the name of Smokey Loc. What I’m most proud of about my work is it’s different. I don’t feel the need to make music about gangs and shooting people to project an image. I wanna make music for everyone and I think I do that. Kids love my music; old folks love the music, it’s just a Dope feeling.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the food in Atlanta, and I say the thing I like the least about the A is them big mosquitos y’all got out there
