Daily Inspiration: Meet Stacie Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacie Jackson.

Hi Stacie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a California born, Atlanta based Crochet Fiber Artist who splits my time designing and crocheting bold fashion pieces; creating, producing, and hosting unique crochet related events, and also developing websites for other fiber artists and various arts-related industries. My grandmother taught me how to crochet at age nine. I spent the better part of my crochet years making simple items like blankets, bags, and scarves for friends and family. It wasn’t until I had my first daughter that I decided to switch gears and make crochet apparel. My love for beadwork led to my beaded crochet jewelry collection and producing many garments adorned with glass and metal beads.

All of my apparel pieces are made with natural fibers, everything from cotton to wool to cashmere and bamboo. I describe my line of apparel and accessories as bold, unique, and colorful. I am the creator and producer of a popular fiber art fashion show called, Strands – A Fiber Fashion Showcase. Seeing a need to take crochet fashion mainstream, this annual show celebrates 10-15 crochet fiber artists from Georgia and beyond. In addition, I created and host Hookers Night Out, an in-person and online event that focuses on the business and art of crochet. My latest venture is Virtual Fiber Art, which is a series of crochet related videos that can be seen on YouTube and craftyva.com. In 2018, my work was on display in the All ‘Bout Yarn exhibition at the Southwest Arts Center in Atlanta, GA.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting people to understand the value of handmade products and their worth is definitely a challenge. Not being a known designer name brand, people are sometimes hesitant to want to spend the type of money that our work commands.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Crochet Fiber Artist. I make clothing and accessories using the art of crochet. I specialize in apparel and accessories for women using natural fiber yarns that are adorned with beads. What sets me apart is that I crochet with beads. Almost everything I made has some type of beadwork or glitz. I am very proud of my crochet beaded bracelets. They get lots of attention. In addition, in the fiber arts community, I’m known as the one who throws crochet related events: Strands, A Fiber Fashion Showcase; Hookers Night Out; and Hooks, WIPs and Chains, and also for my tongue-in-cheek line of crochet accoutrement, #thehookerlife. I am also known for my web development/design and motion graphic work. I specialize in creating websites for arts-related individuals and organizations.

How do you think about happiness?
Outside of my family, the ability to manifest the ideas that come to mind makes me happy. I am a very creative person and I think of new ideas almost every day. I am delighted when I can make those dreams a reality.
