Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Bernard Sr.
Hi Steven, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I kind of fell in love with photography by mistake. I bought a camera at the end of 2020 as I was ending my youth football coaching career. I ended up doing showing up to free football camps and football games to get content and sharpen my skillset. I spent hours on YouTube researching what lenses I should use, what settings I should have for different situations, how to properly edit photos and videos, etc etc.
As my work got better, I was able to start getting contracted by high school teams and youth organizations, which brought in the consistent workflow that I needed to take my game to another level. There are tons of photographers in the metro Atlanta area, what sets me apart from everyone is my ability to connect with players and coaches on a personal level. I honestly feel like I work harder than any other sports content creator in the city right now.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has been a grind for sure but extremely rewarding. I’ve been able to leverage my relationships with coaches and highly recruited players to obtain more business. My focus has always been on providing my clients quality while telling a story through my photos and videos. I started doing free work just to grow my portfolio and 2 years later ended up shooting at the world’s largest sporting event – The Super Bowl!
Some of the struggles that I’ve faced have been self-doubt, which I believe happens to all creatives to some degree. I have had a tendency to get in my own head about my work due to being a perfectionist but I will admit I’ve gotten much better with that. Another struggle I dealt with in the beginning was lack of access of the events I was trying to cover. Certain schools and organizations would deny me access due to lack of experience. So in turn I used those opportunities to learn and come back around when I had the necessary experience.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Steven Bernard Sr – ATL’s Favorite Sports Content Creator
I am a photographer, videographer, and content creator that creates content for athletes, teams, and organizations. I specialize in creating visuals, reels, YouTube shorts, photos and behind the scenes content.
Aside from my work, I’m best known for my hat. I wear it for all of the sporting events I attend and I really started wearing it to keep the sun out of my face and it just kinda stuck and now most folks will come up to me shocked if I don’t wear it lol
I also rock the hat so my babies can find me easiest when I’m on the field when they come to an event I’m covering. “You see the hat, you know the vibes”.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built through my business and the doors that have opened for me since I started creating content. I am EXTREMELY proud of the work that I have done this year at the: SUPER BOWL, SENIOR BOWL, NFL COMBINE, NFL DRAFT, and the CAROLINA PANTHERS TRAINING CAMP.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’m looking to continue to expand my business with different types of projects. This year I have started partnering with businesses and brands to create content for their social media channels and I have fallen in love with. I’m so much more than just a sports photographer. So if you are brand or business and you’re looking for a fresh set of eyes and someone to tell your story in a unique way- I’m your guy!
