Daily Inspiration: Meet Sunni Segines

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sunni Segines.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started doing hair at the age of 16 after watching the movie Boomerang, I wanted to achieve the hairstyle that Halle Berry had worn as her character in the movie role. My grandfather was a licensed cosmetologist, so I asked him to cut my hair in the same style. I came from a single-parent household, so my mom couldn’t afford to send me to the salon to maintain my look. I then began to cut and style my own hair from that day forward. I started doing friends from school but never took up cosmetology school until I was 27. I became licensed around 30 and took my profession and talent seriously and enjoyed the money that came with it (lol). I have owned three salons and have styled celebrities including Keyshia Coles and Yung Joc. Just recently I relocated to Atlanta in December of 2022 from Cleveland Ohio. I love the diversity in Atlanta with all of the people, entertainment and culture. In a city that is known for great hair stylists, I am happy to be here and anticipate leaving a big impression!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have faced obstacles along the way, I have five children so it gets hectic. I lost my husband eight years ago and have been healing and thriving at the same time. Life isn’t fair, but I appreciate the lessons and blessings. My kids give me hope and purpose.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hairstylist, content creator and all-around entrepreneur. In regards to hair styling, I specialize in cutting, color and women’s barbering. I have won several awards for my craft and most importantly my book often stays full. I’m blessed to have never had to work another job besides my career in hair since I started, I learned from the best stylists in my city by working amongst them. I still carry good practices along with me til this day and I am proud to call myself a true professional.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I’ve learned to make sure I save money for a rainy day because things are very unpredictable nowadays.
