Today we’d like to introduce you to Takera Mitchell.
Hi Takera, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While working as an IVF nurse for a fertility clinic, I discovered that patients mixing medications and giving themselves a shot was a roadblock to infertility treatment, In-vitro fertilization (IVF), and egg freezing, essentially a roadblock to their dream of parenthood. At Preferred Fertility Concierge, we are registered nurses supporting individuals undergoing infertility treatment of IVF and egg freezing in the comfort of their homes. Without our service, these individuals, who are typically non-medical and emotionally vulnerable, would be required to mix medications and give themselves medication injections. In a few other medical situations, individuals are required to self-inject medications. Yet during a process that is so important, this is what is required. The process of infertility treatment is highly stressful and causes a great deal of anxiety. Our fertility concierge nurses provide support during a process that most individuals experience alone without the support of family and friends due to the stigma attached to infertility treatment.
Most people don’t anticipate that they would need infertility treatment or egg freezing, this alone creates emotional compromise. We provide fertility treatment navigation to help individuals through the fertility journey from the planning stages to early pregnancy. Infertility is not something that a person chooses or anticipates that they will need, so little is done to prepare for it. Once faced with infertility as an unexpected reality, often people are focused on the outcome of conceiving a child without knowing the steps (physical, emotional, psychological, and financial) required to get there when infertility treatment is required. There is a great need for education and guidance related to reproductive health and egg freezing that we provide to our clients, yet there is room for national and global education as the statistics for individuals continue to rise. It is said that 1 in 6 individuals will be diagnosed with infertility. It is likely that we all know several individuals who live in this reality. My goal is to normalize conversations and resources available to support those undergoing treatment for infertility and egg freezing. It is my vision that everyone will have the support needed as they aspire to be parents and build families, rather today or at a time that is better suited for them. Providing answers to questions and having an actionable plan with realistic expectations can help in making the fertility journey a bit less frightening and manageable. We stick behind building families.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Marketing and brand awareness is a major obstacles because Preferred Fertility Concierge is very niche; it services a highly specific group, and in the Atlanta area, we are currently the only business providing this service. We know that people need assistance mixing medications and administering shots, but they are not aware that the service exists, or they are not informed about it until they ask their fertility doctor, rather than being made aware of the service as a resource in the planning stages. Many people struggle through the infertility treatment process and experience a great deal of anxiety and stress. They don’t truly understand that they will have to give themselves a shot. We are working diligently to provide awareness of our fertility injection service and one-on-one training by connecting with fertility specialists, acupuncturists, therapists, specialty pharmacies and anyone else who can share this valuable resource to support those on the journey of infertility and egg freezing. Due to the sensitive nature of infertility, many people do not discuss it and therefore are not openly offering word-of-mouth referrals like they might with other businesses.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a fertility concierge nurse, I am dedicated to helping individuals and couples navigate the complex world of fertility treatments and egg freezing. This can be an overwhelming experience. With a background in nursing and a passion for reproductive health and helping people, I have dedicated my career to supporting people achieve their dreams of parenthood.
My journey as a fertility nurse began with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a Clayton State University paired with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Florida State University. From there, I honed my skills through years of hands-on experience working as an IVF nurse in practices specializing in fertility treatments. With a deep understanding of the challenges that individuals face with the injections required for the fertility treatment process, I have made it my mission to offer personalized and compassionate support that lessens the anxiety and discomfort around infertility treatment and egg freezing.
As a fertility concierge nurse, I take a holistic approach to fertility management, combining my clinical expertise with a deep understanding of the emotional and psychological impact of infertility. I provide guidance and support to patients at every step of the process, from initial consultation with a fertility specialist and testing to treatment options, medication management, and post-treatment follow-up through fertility coaching and fertility concierge services. We provide this support all in their home in the environment where they are most comfortable.
One of my core values is the importance of education, and I strive to empower my clients with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their fertility treatment. I take the time to explain every aspect of the process, answer any questions they may have, and ensure that they feel confident and supported throughout their journey and advocate for the care that is best for them.
In addition to my clinical work, I am also dedicated to staying up to date with the latest developments in fertility research and technology. I attend conferences, workshops, and continuing education programs to ensure that I align with the best possible care to my clients.
Overall, as a fertility concierge nurse, I am committed to providing exceptional care and support to those seeking to start or expand their families, whether now or later, when it is better suited for them. I am proud to be part of such an important and rewarding field, and I look forward to helping more individuals achieve their dreams of parenthood. I saw a need and created a business that fulfills the need that affords me the opportunity to support my own family and someone else’s while doing what a love professionally.
What makes Preferred Fertility Concierge special is that many of our fertility concierge nurses have first-hand experience with treatment for infertility and egg freezing, which allows for a more personal level of empathy and support. We are honored to support others during such an important and special journey.
In efforts to provide additional support for Infertility and egg freezing, I wrote a book titled “The Ins and Ouches of Infertility and IVF” that serves as an educational resource for the known and unknown about fertility treatment.
What are your plans for the future?
My goal is to partner with more fertility clinics and healthcare providers. By establishing more relationships with these providers, I can provide a seamless and coordinated approach to care for fertility patients, ensuring they receive the best care throughout their treatment process. This collaboration can also promote my business to a broader audience and increase visibility in the community for those who need our help. My goal is to increase philanthropy within my business to support my community by participating in local events or charitable organizations that support infertility awareness and advocacy. This can include sponsoring events, participating in walks or runs, or donating to local organizations that provide support and resources to those struggling with infertility. By supporting these initiatives, I can demonstrate my commitment to the community and help raise awareness about the importance of fertility care support.
Investing in marketing and advertising to increase my business’s visibility and reach new potential clients. Increased visibility can help attract more clients and grow my business faster and further. Investing in technology and software to streamline processes and services, making it easier for clients to access services, schedule appointments, and communicate with nurse providers.
Expanding business operations and hire additional staff to increase the capacity to serve more clients. Obtaining a physical location for clients to receive fertility support and educational resources.
In summary, I desire for Preferred Fertility Concierge to be the number one source for fertility treatment support in the Southeast United States with expansion to Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina, Tennesee and Alabama and eventually the entire country. We have the potential to make a significant impact on the lives of those struggling with infertility. So that no one goes through this process without the support that they need. My business can support my local community and nationally by providing education and resources, partnering with various providers, and supporting initiatives on infertility awareness.
