Today, we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Cross.
Hi Taylor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My career started in a very unique way. In high school, I started modeling for a celebrity airbrush make-up artist, and I would participate in various fashion shows and productions in Atlanta, which gave me a direct connection to the entertainment and live events industry in the city.
Eventually, I was selected to partake in an entrepreneurship intern program for a music publishing company that gave me insight into the business world through a marketing and PR perspective. I learned how to develop great follow-up skills, build authentic relationships, and add value to other people in the marketplace, which led to more opportunities for the company I was working for.
In college, I continued to build my network in New York City and learned how to make strategic decisions around driving awareness and earning ROI through digital media channels like social media, digital ads, etc., which were new tactics that companies were just beginning to leverage as part of their overall marketing plan.
As I continued to grow my network by adding value to people in the industry, I continued to gain more opportunities to expand my reach and skillset. Additionally, I worked on obtaining certifications within the industries that I wanted to work in, which ultimately gave me a competitive edge for the position that I currently hold within the hospitality industry.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I always look at things as the glass half full. There were struggles along the way, and I did not always have my ideal job description or title. However, I chose to look at what I did have, which was a solution-based mindset and a willingness to learn and change.
Those traits have helped me overcome struggles. I also always remember that this too shall pass and that things could always be worse, which has helped me remain grateful and steadfast when things don’t always go my way.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am most proud of the relationships that I have built over the years.
I have some of the most highly sought-after mentors in the country, which has led to my personal and professional growth. Finding a mentor with the exact lifestyle and results I want has been a game changer, and I’ve learned that most of the time, it’s about who you know vs what you know or what you have.
To grow, I had to get around people who would push me out of my comfort zone and show me how to do things differently than I normally would. I learned that change could be positive, and sometimes, it’s best to shut off my brain and use the brain of someone smarter than me. You can only take yourself so far before you need help and guidance.
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
Taking risks is vital for growth and success. The only people who succeed are the people who fail many times first. If you don’t take risks, then how can you learn? How would you get outside of your comfort zone?
I think ego keeps us from taking risks. I’ve learned to plan for the future and live in the now. Taking calculated and educated risks has helped me to increase my earning potential and prepare me for a more abundant lifestyle.
