Today we’d like to introduce you to Tera Carissa Hodges.
Hi Tera Carissa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey begins in media, sales, women’s empowerment, and ministry. It stems all the way back to me being class president in the 6th grade, senior class president in high school, a writer for my high school newspaper and student staff member for our yearbook. I have always had a thing for empowerment, leadership and media.
From there, I obtained my bachelors degree from Florida A&M University in 2005 in broadcast journalism.
Not forsaking my Christian background, I entered into ministry at the same time that I entered into media sales, in 2006.
It has been a phenomenal, purposeful, powerful , ever evolving journey that I am proud of,
In 2009, when I officially launched my own ministry, I left corporate full time and began to travel more as a faith based speaker, and went on to launch my own faith based coaching practice in 2010.
To date, I have coached thousands of women throughout the US, Europe, Africa, The Middle East, Canada and The Caribbean, one on one and in group settings with well over 1,000 testimonies sent in from around the globe. By training as it correlates to faith based coaching, I am a certified life coach, licensed and ordained minister, and a certified clinical hypnotherapist.
In the media arena, I have worked with networks and production companies to place talent on tv, pitch tv shows and more. Because I believe positive media in any form is an act of ministry, I have launched www.ilovemytestimony.com to empower people to reject shame by owning their testimonies so their testimonies can never own them, trademarked the term “Success Bullying” and launched www.successbullying.us to empower women against bullying in their workplace and industry, and influentialmamas.com to empower the new and next generation of mamas.
My books include: The Wealth Circle, where I break down how I made my first million in coaching, Mastering Wealth Volume 1 with Grammy Award winning artist, Master P and Your Story Sells with Les Brown.
Because I believe philanthropy complements ministry, I have sponsored wells being built for school children in Nigeria, fresh water for women and children in Zimbabwe, and multiple charitable projects for the International Displaced Persons camp, also in Nigeria.
In addition to, I am a United Nations appointed ambassador for two United Nations Economic and Social Council endorsed organizations, as well as a Advisory Board member for one of them. We focus on the United Nations 17 sustainable development goals (SDG). Also, an ambassador for the Institute for Economics and Peace, publisher of the Global Peace Index, I recognize that SDG goals correlate with the peace and stability of all nations.
Because I firmly believe in becoming credentialed in the arenas you choose to have impact, I have also obtained credentials from The Lilly School of Philanthropy at Indiana University in fundraising and Harvard University in Business In Society, and I am not done.
My journey continues.
Reflecting on my faith, I firmly believe I am one of the servants with 10 metaphoric talents (laughs), as described in Matthew 25. That means, you can’t put me in a box and I am only deemed an overachiever to those who don’t have as many talents as me (laughs). God has entrusted me with a lot. I aim to give Him a return on every gift He has given me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. But, I love that! One of my favorite African proverbs is: smooth seas don’t create skillful sailors. I regret nothing, am ashamed of nothing, and understand that I didn’t come to this world to have a perfect journey but a purposeful journey. My life has personified this quote: Throw me to the wolves and I will come back leading the pack. I am grateful for every lesson every chapter has taught me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I primarily currently run a very successful subscription service called 1KSubscribers that you can find here: www.teracarissa.com 1KSubscribers, It launched in 2016 and allows me to send out messages to people around the globe that are faith based and relevant to our every day living.
I also do weekly teachings that allow people who are subscribed to my text service to get alerts when I am going live to empower. That too was launched in 2016 and we have been going strong every since.
Any big plans?
A professional and entrepreneur who is constantly evolving and impacting, more is to come. Stay tuned.
