Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrance Utley.
Hi Terrance, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a native of Savannah, GA who was born with Sickle Cell disease. In my mind(even as a child), I was not going to allow this to hinder me on my journey to success. With a life expectancy of only 30 I knew I had to make it! One day while on Facebook I saw a casting call for the atlanta and immediately asked about intern positions, since I am a current film student! That was one year ago and now I am am the Director of Photography for this production company “Chasing My Dreamz Productions ” with, CEO Renee Chandler.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As some people may know, the road is never smooth but that is what makes it worthwhile. I battled many obstacles with my health to the birth of my firstborn and even ended s few friendships along the way. was it easy? no. But for a piece, if mind it was defiantly worth it. The character that is built when trials and tribulations comes is a reward in itself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have my Bachelor’s in Digital Cinematography so camera work is my specialty but gaffing and rigging is also another area I’m trying to get familiar with. My first video came off an iPhone and it is one of the ones that are closest to my heart just on the strength of how much love went into it. My goal is to be a Special VFX artist but I don even know where to start at for that but I’m convinced with time it will all fall into place though.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important thing I have learned thus far in my journey is to walk in humility and to always stay humble. The entertainment industry may seem big when in actuality it is pretty small. Nevertheless, my mom always made sure.
