Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Jodie.
Hi Vanessa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a little girl, I found myself always trying to do something creative. It could be with music, acting, dancing, or starting a business. I started out playing the piano, participating in beauty pageants, dance teams, and writing my first song at the age of 14. Coming from a foreign family, it was tough for me. From the world judging you, to the house forcing you to be what they want you to be. I graduated high school at the age of 16. After, I knew that no matter what I put my mind to I can make anything that seems impossible possible. I live by two mottos: “Impossible” means “I’m Possible” and “Plan, Execute, and Conquer (P.E.C.).” I move with plan and precision. I decided later in my life I wanted to return back to my love for music. I am a R&B, Pop, & Hip Hop Artist in Atlanta. I didn’t just return back to music, I returned back as a business. With building myself as a brand, I have allowed myself to help the world to see my vision through my music. In the near future, expect more and more from me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is anything in life really smooth? One major struggle was removing myself from low vibrational environments. I understood what it would take to accomplish my music career and be successful at it. In life, when you realize everyone will have an opinion, everyone will not like you, and everyone is not meant to make it with you to the finish line, you will have fought the biggest fight of your life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a R&B, Pop, & Hip Hop Artist. My music specializes in man appreciation music and feel good music. I am known for my versatile talent. My music I am told does not sound like anyone else. I am proud that I am a single mother who chooses to fulfill my dreams and be a great mother at the same damn time. Both of my children, are my #1 fans and supporters. I am not only showing them I can be there for them, but also showing them in life you have to show up for yourself. I am different and always have been. I stand for self-love, self-care, and self-determination. When I walk in a room, it’s not about the light I bring, but the energy I hold within.
What were you like growing up?
When I was a little girl, I was very quiet and reserved. I was all of that, but yet always wanted to perform in front of an audience. I never was nervous. I was a child who always enjoyed trying new things. Funny thing? I was a tomboy. I would be mad if I had to wear stockings and a dress. My personality was kind and joyful spirit. I did not have any care in the world. I always smiled. I enjoyed painting, listening to music all day, and dancing all day.
