Daily Inspiration: Meet William Batchelor

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Batchelor.

Hi William, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Music has always been a gateway for me rather I’m feeling up or down. Growing up I remember listening to Warren G, Snoop Dogg, Dmx, Master P and the rest of the street legends. I was 9 when I started recording music on cassette tapes with my brother and cousins. Just knowing I was about to mail it off to Jermaine Dupree and the SoSo Def label. Well, it came back and I was crushed. I didn’t give up there I just felt like maybe I don’t need to be there than. By middle school, I was always entering the lunchroom/classroom freestyle battles.

Of course, I took some L’s home but I had wayyyy more W’s under my belt. I had a close friend growing up that I would always hang with and that’s all we did was RAP, middle of conversations RAP, playing the game RAP. the best part about that is we were working on perfection against each other. by time I hit High school I was writing more and more and more and more with no actual studio experience.

I remember helping my cousin out with a verse to a song he done with his neighborhood friends that became viral on the westside of Detroit. I didn’t like the behind the scenes side of the spotlight especially because I wasn’t getting exposure so that didn’t last long, Ghostwriting. I had no real way of actually getting to a studio or paying for it. No problem. I kept writing. I moved to Columbia, South Carolina from Detroit and that was the biggest change in my life. lol. I don’t know anybody can’t find a studio and feeling like my style of music just wouldn’t bloom there. Wrong. I meet a cool dud from Connecticut that had not the best equipment but had equipment. I wrote a song called Marriot. I didn’t know how to get on platforms I didn’t know how to promote my music for real I didn’t know a lot of things actually.

Once I realized that part I started teaching myself that it’s not just about the music “Will” it’s more business. I moved to Atlanta a few years later where I picked back up the microphone but didn’t know what kind of sharks was out there because this is one of the music capitals. I started working on my craft again. this time I was smarter to network and mingle amongst party promoters, club host, DJ’s. I made big connections with 1 cameraman who taught me ALOT. forever my brother E. before I could make a move I would call him for advice but of course, I had to hear him say “I’m giving you free game when this should be a consultation” lol the ropes E showed me and the conversations we have are worth a million dollars to me. with advice and learning the business I’m more excited about the business because the music comes naturally to me. I’m not where I want to be just yet and I’m not far from the door either.

Today I can say and proudly that I am involved with short films, movies, music videos, music, recording sessions, interviews, performances and much more. it only makes sense if it’s really a passion.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is smooth. No ghetto is worse than the next. Growing up in Detroit was kind of hard and in my opinion, I sometimes do feel like it is worse than anywhere else. I love my birthplace and everything Detroit has to offer. The struggles I had in Detroit weren’t complicated I think it was just me and what really caught my interest while I was home. my passion is music, I also played basketball on an expert level (lol). it was really easy to get sidetracked and become a sponge and lose focus especially when you want some Cartier glasses. lol

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My specialties are Music and Basketball. I’ve been a sports head since I could remember and also played against some of the best. Music is also a passion that I have. I have been surrounded by the two forever. I’m known for a lot of things but the things that stand out and look good is the Music and sports. I also coach basketball.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk taking……….. Sacrifices…… I lost more than I could gain and started over and over again and again. At a certain point in life, it becomes normal like life has a reset button and that’s not even possible. I just fight life back it’s a loophole everywhere. You’ll take risks and sacrifices trying to get ahead. Trust me.
