Today we’d like to introduce you to William Gregory.
Hi William, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised on the Westside of Detroit (Dexter-Linwood Area), not even 5 minutes from Hitsville U.S.A’s Motown Museum. Always focused and intrigued with higher education and before I knew it, I was attending Norfolk State University located in Norfolk, VA. Majoring in Political Science while a part of the 2018 class of the” Spartan Legion” Marching Band which was featured in 2019 Grammy Award-Winning music video “Heavy Metal by Justice”, XXL Article mention and more. My journey started at Norfolk State and would eventually take me across the country to places such as Baltimore, the Carolinas, Baton Rouge and more as I started pursuing my media and writing career. Even living in between Atlanta and Norfolk for a while.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road per say but Detroit Natives are tough. Life can knock you down as much as it wants but you always have to look at the good side and never let your hardships break you. There have been so many setbacks in my lifetime yet I still get up every day searching for a new goal that can make me better than I was yesterday.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m currently a contributing writer for Strangely Awesome Games and a contributing writer/marketing-advertising specialist for Black Link Magazine. I previously worked for HBCU Grad, HBCU Pulse, Common Black College Application, Historically Black Since and more. Even creating and managing the HBCU Application Instagram page during my time with CBCA. Most of which have their own mission with the similarity of exposing the public to HBCU and Black excellence, while Strangely Awesome focuses on video games. I also am a photographer, tutor, past business owner, media specialist and member of (For)bes The Culture.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I honestly don’t believe in luck but if I did, I’d say it had played a crucial role in me being where I am today!
