Exploring Life & Business with JaLaura Huff of ROSIE Candles

Hi JaLaura, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is JaLaura Huff and I’m a 28-year-old entrepreneur located in the DMV area. My love for candles started a few years back when I use to always shop at Bath & Body Works for my candle products. One day I have decided to make candles just for fun because I got tired of spending money on them. When I started to make candles, I gave them to my two close friends to try. After receiving feedback, I have decided that I was going to turn it into a business and start perfecting the candles. I wanted to build a brand that people would love and can relate to because who doesn’t love a good smelling candle. However, I wanted to also implement different essential oils that can help someone relax, bring them happiness, and fills up a room within a matter of minutes.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is no such thing as a smooth road when starting a business. As I started my business, I faced many hardships and still do as I continue to grow. However, some of my struggles along the way were coming up with catchy names to draw customer’s attention and choosing the perfect scents that my customers would love. I used to always question myself asking, “Am I not good enough?”, “Could I be doing more?”, etc. but I still have yet to give up. Thankfully, I have supportive family and friends that keep me going.

ROSIE Candles specializes in aromatherapy and enhancing a self-care lifestyle while putting your mind at ease. Lighting candles can provide the perfect atmosphere, help set the mood for special occasions, and induce the necessary level of calmness beneficial to your well-being. I believe what sets me apart from others is that I put my focus on my customer’s self-care and providing them with a great product that can help reduce stress, depression, and anxiety. When it comes to my brand, I’m most proud of being known for aromatherapy and knowing that when you light my candles, it can fill your home with a beautiful aroma and helps you relax after a long day.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising that people might not know about me is that I have struggled with anxiety more than often. However, building a brand around aromatherapy is the coping mechanism that helps me through.
