Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Liner.
Hi Joel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a barber by trade and years ago, I had a brand called Barber Vintage, which catered to Barbers and hairstylists. It was cool, but I always wanted to offer apparel that catered to everyone. I had the idea for a long time and I knew I wanted to build something around the concept of Legacy. After testing a bunch of names, I came up Legacy Over Lust.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Finding the right way to market and reach people is always a struggle, especially for a new business. Money is tight and you definitely don’t want to throw it away on the wrong idea. The main unforeseen obstacle was the effects of Covid 19. The pandemic made it difficult to not only get inventory. It was even more difficult for customers to receive orders. Everyone is so used to getting things quickly and covid slowed that down. It’s frustrating having to deal with issues that are completely out of your control.
We’ve been impressed with Legacy Over Lust, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Legacy Over Lust is a clothing brand that encourages the idea of putting goals and dreams ahead of any temporary empty frill. We currently offer tshirts and hoodies and will be adding jogging suits and jackets in late 2021. What sets us apart is knowing that you can get apparel from a million different other brands and we are cool with that. We just want you to think about the message and maybe you’ll like what we are doing and support. While we hope to grow and sustain this brand for a long time, we are most proud of just getting started with the little we had. Most people have got ideas but never get started due to feeling like everything has to be in place. Our mission to move forward with whatever we have to work with and grow from there. Customers know that our brand is keen on pushing the idea of leaving a legacy for families and communities.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like most that it’s diverse, quiet, and easy to move around. The downside is that it’s not a whole lot of entertainment, but Atlanta is a short drive away.
