Today we’d like to introduce you to Poshay Holland.
Hi Poshay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started creating music around the age of 14 with some of my best friends from high school. In the beginning it was just a hobby outside of school. locking ourselves in the room over the weekend so we could just record until it was time for School, performing in talent shows, pep rallies and other school events. As time went on we all grew older and started to part ways in life, one of my best friends who I do all of my recording and creating with Jarius Bethel went to the US Navy his second year of college which for me took away my passion and desire to make music.
So, through the years I went to college, joined the work force and ultimately created a life outside of music. Once he returned from the navy we immediately got back in the studio to pick up where we left off those many years ago. We were like two kids again and during this time he put out his first mixtape Jupiter which I featured on four of seven songs. I once again had found my passion and I knew that whatever my path in life was it would revolve around creating and pursuing music. Last year we dropped our long awaited collaboration album Paradigm Shift which for me was the true start of my music career. This year I plan on dropping my first solo tape in march, followed by many visuals and more collaborations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far I haven’t had any major issues in pursuing a music career. I think every artist goes through there ups and downs, but it’s all about your perception of those situations. Honestly I think my main struggle was finding my own style and originality and finding which direction I wanted to take in that regard.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about `Create or Elevate?
We started Create or Elevate LLC for the sole purpose of giving all artist a place to come and show off their creations whether it be clothes, music, DJ mixes, beats, artwork etc. We want to be known for not only inspiring artist but also helping them to get their creations out to the masses. We believe in helping one another in achieving one’s goals and dreams because without each other who do we create for? We want to be known as a place where people come to connect and network with one another and potentially find other artist that may be able to help them gain knowledge and help further their career while in turn doing the same for others. We are currently in the process of solidifying our platform and having it up and running by late 2021.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Consistency is key. You have to have patience in this game, nothing is going to fall in your lap or happen overnight. If you truly love something and want to make a career and a life out of it you have to work for it. Ultimately you have to be your own biggest fan because no one will support or push you harder than yourself.
