Hi Alexis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Millennial hustler, growing up listening to Jay-Z while I walked to two schools and worked two jobs. I have always been an entrepreneur in the Cosmetology industry, licensed at 18 to salon owner at 26. What I have grown to love through my collegiate experience is Marketing and Professional Communication, thus completing my MBA in Business Management. By blending passion for speaking with my technical skills as a cosmetologist, I have worked as a public speaker for 12 years about speciality hair techniques and in-depth product knowledge. Since 2022, I took on the role as Marketing Professor at Chattahoochee Technical College. And let me say I love it! This has been the most rewarding experience, connecting with the next generation while talking all things Business and Marketing. On the side, I run my podcast Energy Is Currency, available on Spotify, Apple & Amazon. This podcast captures my full experience, teaching folks how to mind their business personally and professionally. My goal is to integrate all things Marketing with real life experiences and use personal development to keep entrepreneurs motivated to get that bag.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
By no means has the road been smooth. I think the biggest struggle is balancing everything. I am often asked how I manage keep everything going as a business owner/ operator and a marketing professor. My response is: Always stay present and take things one at a time. It has been a struggle navigating the economy as a business owner in Atlanta throughout the years. However, my unique background prepared me to weave through obstacles with critical thinking skills and a whole lot of creativity. I used to pride myself on being resourceful until I realized it was hindering me to just the resources I could create or produce. Building a genuine community has been my biggest blessing. I am grateful to have amazing mentors and family that give me a shoulder to cry on and a platform to shine from. Being an entrepreneur for 12 years has allowed me to really build a foundation and focus on myself and my professional strengths. It is so easy to compare to others success or try to just mimic what they are doing, but I have really honed in on my gifts and use them in ways that build me up instead of always doing things at my own expense. The emotional development and maturity needed to be on your own has refined me and showed me how reparent and love on all my complex layers.

Energy is Currency is the first layer to my business consulting organization. Blush Biz MGMT is a marketing management boutique that helps scale small businesses. BBM specializes in providing systems and strategies to launch and sustain businesses, especially beauty based and online businesses. What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel like the most important characteristic to my success is my self motivation and self discipline. It is important to me to be present and aware of myself in every environment. As I hone in on what that means and refine it, I really allow myself to connect with others. My listening skills and ability to provide solutions for that specific instance or situation gives me a cutting edge when tasked with challenges.
