Exploring Life & Business with Alicia Mock of Asesina Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Mock.

Hi Alicia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up as a competitive gymnast and, like many young athletes, developed muscles at a fast pace. My quads and biceps were built larger than the typical sizing scale which made it difficult shopping for clothes – especially jeans. After years of struggling to find outfits that fit, I decided to make it a goal to create a space for female athletes in the fashion industry. I graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in entrepreneurship and set out to launch my clothing line, Asesina Designs – fashion made for the athletic body.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I launched Asesina during the peak of Covid-19 in August 2020. The pandemic slowed down production worldwide which delayed new pieces I had planned to launch. Manufacturing costs have gone up as well making it challenging as a small business to absorb these additional costs.

One of the methods we use to manage costs is to engage with customers at pop-ups, athletic events, and online rather than opening a storefront. This has given us the added benefit of hearing directly from our customers and taking note of what is important to them.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Asesina Designs?
Asesina Designs is a women’s clothing line sized and designed for the athletic build. Asesina translates to “female assassin” in Spanish. I chose the name to represent the dedicated individuals who are striving for their best. Asesina embodies the bold, badass, and beautiful. Here to support the grind and showcase the results!

All of our fashion is made with muscles in mind. We specialize in designing jeans made to comfortably fit the curves of the athletic body. The jeans are developed with a specific sizing scale to ensure there is no gapping at the waist and there is enough room for muscular quads.

After months of research and development, I created a sizing scale that would fit an athlete’s proportions. The sizing scale provides enough room for muscular quads and hips while fitting smaller waist measurements. Our products are produced in Los Angeles with international material. There is an emphasis on high quality, with each style made sweatshop-free in small batches. We are currently expanding our denim line and designing new dresses for 2022.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is to build a company that allows women to feel as confident and powerful in their daily lives as they do in their sports.
