Hi Amari, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a creative person since I was young. Being different than everyone else was something I’d strive for. Whether it was a standard pair of jeans or shoes that everyone had, I’d distress or paint them to add my own twist. While being in college one summer, I knew I wanted to create a clothing brand that was personal to me. So I spent that summer and the next few months researching, designing, getting products manufactured, producing products myself, and promoting. All this work led me to deliver my first drop around December 2023, and the rest was history. Now we are a fast-growing small business with products ready to sell and social media pages promoting our inventory in different parts of the world. On top of that, we can also handle manufacturing needs for any other businesses or companies. The overall success of After Dark has been substantial.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not always been a smooth road. In the business world, there’s no such thing as a smooth road. Some of the struggles I’ve had along the way include samples not being the way I’d like them, delays in processing, high shipping fees from International manufacturers, running out of stock when demand is high, and the list goes on. Without any of these struggles, though, I wouldn’t be able to learn and grow the brand into what it is today and what it will eventually become.

Any big plans?
Some plans for After Dark Apparel include eventually opening our own store Downtown. This is the main goal at the moment. Additionally, more plans are to host multiple pop-up shops around the area, so everyone in the city has easy access to our clothing. We are looking forward to continued business growth across the nation and around the world. One specific significant change we implemented that we weren’t able to do before was shipping our products worldwide, which we now do with ease, so anyone in any country can purchase a piece from After Dark Apparel.
