Exploring Life & Business with Andrea Mckenzie of Andrea Unique Art LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Mckenzie

Hi Andrea, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey as an artist began long before I even realized it was my calling. I’m a self-taught artist, and my gift was discovered when I was just nine years old. As a child, I was always drawing, painting, and designing! I even designed my mother’s work clothes, which she would take to a tailor to bring to life. Creativity was second nature to me, and looking back, I realize that art was always my safe space, my therapy, & my way of expressing the world as I saw it.

Growing up, I was also deeply influenced by my father, a leading pioneer in the vibrant Trinidad & Tobago Carnival. His work exposed me to the craftsmanship behind costume-making the bending of wire, the fusion of materials, and the artistry of movement and purpose. Those experiences taught me the beauty of working with my hands, bringing visions to life, and creating something that resonates with people on a deep level.

Despite my love for art, I pursued business and marketing in school and worked in that industry for years. But life has a way of bringing you back to where you truly belong. After getting fired from my last corporate job, I was forced to pause and reevaluate my path. In that moment, I rediscovered my passion for art! not just as a hobby, but as my true purpose. I realized that God had blessed me with this natural talent not just to create, but to inspire, uplift, and change lives.

That realization gave me the courage to take a leap of faith. I didn’t want to live with “what ifs” or regrets, so I chose to fully step into my power as an artist. Since then, I’ve had the honor of creating work that resonates with people, showcasing my art on incredible platforms, and using my journey to inspire others to embrace their own gifts. My story is one of faith, resilience, and purpose, and I hope it encourages others to believe in themselves and trust the path meant for them.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has been anything but smooth, but I believe that challenges are often the stepping stones to greatness. Migrating to a new country with no network, no established foundation, and having to build my art and brand from scratch was one of the biggest tests of my resilience. It was a complete reset no friends, no family, just me and my vision. Oddly enough in my heart it was the right decision

One of the hardest struggles was navigating the emotional and mental weight of being alone in a new environment. Back home, I was surrounded by lots of love, familiar faces, & a strong support system.
Here, I had to find my way in an unfamiliar space while still holding onto the essence of who I am as an artist. The journey of self-doubt & moments of questioning whether I made the right decision were real, but I reminded myself why I started.

Another major challenge was breaking into an industry where connections matter. Without a built-in network, I had to prove myself purely through my work, my persistence, and my belief that my art would create opportunities. I knocked on doors, got rejected multiple times but I kept going and made sure that when my moment came, I was ready.

But through all the struggles, I found strength in my purpose. Every obstacle forced me to grow, to adapt, and to push past limitations. The journey is still unfolding, but I know that every challenge I’ve faced has only made my story, my art even more powerful.

We’ve been impressed with Andrea Unique Art LLC , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Andrea Unique Art LLC is where art meets fashion, lifestyle, and empowerment!
My brand goes beyond canvas to inspire, uplift, and transform.
I specialize in high-end mixed media artwork that fuses vibrant color, rich texture, a range of different materials and bold storytelling, creating pieces that are as powerful as they are visually striking. My work extends beyond traditional art, seamlessly infusing fashion and lifestyle experiences that embody creativity and self-expression.

What sets Andrea Unique Art apart is the way i merge art with purpose.
Each creation is not just a statement piece, it carries a deeper message of resilience, culture, and empowerment, particularly for people pursuing their dreams. As a self-taught artist who rebuilt from scratch in a new country,
I understand the courage it takes to follow your passion, and I infuse that journey into my work. My brand is about breaking barriers, embracing individuality, and using art as a vehicle for self-discovery and confidence.

One of my proudest achievements is seeing how my art resonates across industries. Gracing the walls of collectors and institutions, making its way into celebrity homes, being showcased at galas and exhibitions.
My work doesn’t just decorate a space; it tells a story, sparks conversation, and makes an impact.

I offer custom commissions, corporate and public art installations, fashion-infused art pieces, live art experiences, and creative styling services.
I want people to know that art is more than just what you see, it’s how you feel, how you express yourself, and how you connect with the world. Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind statement piece, an artistic collaboration, or inspiration to chase your own dreams, my brand is here to bring that vision to life.

This is more than art to me it’s a movement. A celebration of creativity, culture, and the power of believing in yourself.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When I first started, I had very limited resources and not much money, so I had to be strategic. I used social media to my advantage, leveraging its power to showcase my work, build my brand, and get my name out there faster.
Once I built myself up a bit, I started stepping into networking spaces and industry events. That’s where I met my mentor someone who not only provided guidance but also helped me navigate the business side of the art world. Having a mentor is important, especially in today’s fast-paced social climate. They offer perspective, open doors to opportunities, and help you avoid mistakes they’ve already learned from.

For anyone looking to find a mentor or network effectively, my advice is:
• Be intentional. Know what you want to achieve & seek out people who align with your vision.
• Put yourself in the right spaces. Attend events, workshops, and shows that attract the kind of people you want to connect with.
• Use social media wisely. Engage with professionals in your industry, showcase your work consistently, and don’t be afraid to reach out.
• Offer value. Instead of just asking for help, build relationships
• Stay authentic. Everyone has to find the platform and work ethic that suits their goals, dreams, and personality! success isn’t one-size-fits-all honestly

Networking is also about how you show up, the energy you bring, and the connections you nurture over time.
