Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Moore.
Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story started in Accra, Ghana – West as the daughter of blue-collar working parents. My mother believed in education and so as a hairstylist she focused her limited resources on my education.
My education spanned so regions within the country – middle school in Accra and an all-girl boarding school in Saltpond, Ghana. I like to say the law chose me as I wanted to be a business major in college but changed my mind last minute and applied into the law program at the University of Ghana, Legon where I studied for my JD or LL.B. In retrospect, I may have secretly admired lawyers and perhaps always desired to be an attorney but it was a dream I felt was beyond my reach financially.
With having graduated from my JD program in 2000, I enrolled in law school at the Ghana School of Law, Accra. Two years later, in October 4, 2002, I was called to the Ghana Bar. I was elated for myself and for my mother who had defied the odds to educate the first attorney in our family. Growing up, attorneys were people we saw in the news or read about in the newspaper. I never knew one personally.
In 2003, after a brief stay in the United Kingdom, I arrived in Tennessee, to pursue what I now know as the “American Dream”. However, before I could pursue that dream I had to confront the complex immigration laws of the United States in an effort to establish my path to a complete legal status to work, live and thrive in the United States. Out of that period, was birthed the desire to help others navigate the United States immigration laws and achieve their dreams.
Georgia School of Law was my choice of a law school for my Master in Law (LL.M) program for many reasons but mainly because of its location. During my period in Tennessee, I visited Georgia on countless occasions. Georgia was always where I felt at home. Driving into Georgia filled me with energy and inspiration to pursue every dream. I’ve been known to scream “ I love Georgia” whenever I drove into Georgia’s highways from Tennessee.
In 2013, after receiving my law license from the state of New York, I opened my law practice (focusing on immigration) in Nashville, TN. Tennessee was incredibly nurturing of my law practice. We currently have over 40 employees located in Tennessee and other parts of the world working with the Tennessee office in immigration and changing lives every day.
But, Georgia called so I answered! In 2021, we opened our first Georgia office in Johns Creek, GA. While Tennessee had the hospitality and charm of the south, Georgia represents the strength and resilience of dreams. Georgia is a place of growth and self-discovery. It represents the next phase of the story about dreaming beyond what the circumstances dictate. Georgia is our new home and Atlanta is the door.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth. Definitely, whatever “road” led me from Ghana to Atlanta, GA cannot be completely paved.
I’ve encountered many bumps along the ride. From struggling to gain immigration status to raising twins right out of law school with limited resources. The incredible part of these struggles is that some of them inspired the dream and continue to fan the flame of hope and perseverance in the face of every diversity.
For instance, the struggle with immigration led to my passion for immigration law practice and my twins inspired not only the only of my firm but they remain the reason for my relentless efforts to fight for my clients. Family is everything and everyone deserves to be United with their family.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
What you know about our firm is that we driven by a passion that is born out of our personal experiences. We are a woman-led immigration law firm focusing on providing excellent representation for immigrants and their families. We mainly serve the Latino community but our passion has touched the lives of clients from many other backgrounds.
What sets us apart is our unique ability to empathize with our clients while maintaining a professional relationship to balance out some of the injustices within the legal system. Not to sound cliché but we have actually “walked” in our clients so we know where they feel the pinch but we also know how to ease the pain.
We are exceptionally proud of our nine years of service. We take pride in the knowledge that our firm has become synonymous with great results that change the lives of real people today and in the future.
We specialize in representing clients who have “difficult cases”. We focus on finding options for regularizing legal status within the United States. Many of our clients have previously been informed that their only option was to leave the county and re-enter at a later time but we strive to find options within the United States because we believe that families are stronger together.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have definitely had mentors along the way; personally and professionally. My mother, Paulina Quartey deserves exceptional attention for her sheer demonstration of willpower and the strength of a woman. She embodies the sentiment of saying that when educating a woman, you educate an entire community. Watching my mother transform her high school education and limited means into a legacy of excellence, motivates me to put a crack in that glass ceiling every day.
My girlfriends Priscilla Koranteng, Mildred Pountney and Anita Wilson have inspired me both professionally and personally. They each have taught me resilience, love and courage to pursue my dreams.
I’ve also had one professional mentor who inspired me to dream the biggest dream for my business. That mentor shall remain anonymous.
I’m thankful for all these wonderful women in my life.
