Hi Ashley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
WOW!! It’s crazy now that I thinking about I literally have had an entrepreneurial mindset since I was in the 2nd grade. Ya, see my Grandmother was the “Candy Lady” in her neighborhood and I would buy candy from her store and the very next day, I sold it in class to my classmates at a marked up price. This is hilarious now to reflect that I was only seven (7) years old selling stuff. This candy selling business went on all the way through middle school, then in high school I began selling colored contacts. I would get my Mom and Grandmother to buy on their credit cards for me, pay them back and add my mark up sell the contacts and reorder. I can remember working at a call center and word got I that I was selling colored contacts, I was off my phone so much selling contacts that the Team Lead literally came to me and was like, ” Honey, you don’t need to be on the clock selling contacts.” I replied, “You are so right!” I quit that very day because I was tripping my income in contact sales and it did not make sense to ride their clock. Then I wanted a new car so I went to a major car to and had my credit report pulled and soon discovered that my score was LOW, and intrigued me on how to improve my own credit. After disputing in literally two weeks, I saw my credit score jump from 467 to 646 a two hundred point increase on my report. After working in a local hospital in HR for four (4) years, I slowly grow a love for credit reports.
Until one day, I called it quits at the hospital and started working on credit repair full-time in my home birthing New Credit Inc. I purchased my first home while being full-time self-employed. After being self-employed for six years a friend called me saying that the United States Postal Service was hiring and I should apply because it was a good job. I jokingly applied and to my surprise I was called for employment. I worked there for twelve (12) months and let’s just say it was the hardest work I have ever done. While driving to work one morning I had a “aha moment” and thought to myself that it could do this credit repair on my own credit report that I could do this for others. So, I began repairing credit of those that were close to me and they began sharing their good news with people. At the time, I was working at a local college as an administrator however my mind was on repairing credit and further educating myself on the laws and regulations dealing with credit. I can vividly remember my boss having a sitdown with me “calling me out” about me not mentally being at work and constantly online, on the phone taking care of “New Credit Inc” business. She allowed me to take one week off work to see if this newfound love was indeed what I wanted to pursue and “BABY” I was in my zone and business was great in that one week to no prevail. When my week was up, I called my boss over the week to resign and she replied, ” I knew that this time off is what you needed to make the decision to jump and go full throttle into your calling.” It was that week that I became an independent, full-time, stand-alone entrepreneur. This has been a journey that I have no regrets of and would do it over and over again. To see where I began to where I am going and the lives New Credit Inc has impacted, I would not trade it for any amount of money.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding my target audience, getting comfortable in the industry, listening to what the clients needed and adjusting to their needs, finding my niche, and coming to the realization that everyone is not my target audience.
