Exploring Life & Business with Brandon Clay of Peach State Basketball, Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Clay.

Hi Brandon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was mentored in the grassroots basketball marketing and training world by Robert Hanna, Brian Harmon and Buck Jenkins. Their influence led me to want to build a career in the industry. After graduating from Georgia Southern with a degree in Sport Management, I moved back to the Atlanta area and went to work building a business. Over time, I saw a need for media coverage, elite training and national exposure for the young women playing the game. That became my niché until 2015 when the company brought back the guys side to aid their recruitment as well.

Since starting, I’ve been fortunate enough to assist thousands of young men and women play at the college level on scholarship. Our most well decorated alum is Maya Moore who was WNBA MVP in 2014. After watching Moore’s ascent to the top of the professional ranks, it only made sense to start to add more pieces to the company puzzle with the guys side addition followed by a Brandon Clay Lifestyle Collection launch in early 2019.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Looking back, it’s been as smooth as starting a company could possibly be. My inner circle has been amazing. My parents, John and Willie Ann Clay, never questioned the vision. I have worked over a decade with the best staff possible in Chris Hansen, Jonathan Hemingway, Taylor Johnson and Vince Smith. Their unyielding commitment to greatness has made the road much smoother than it would have been without them.

My business associates often given me the fuel to keep pushing as well. Donte Grant, Dain Pool, Sean Smith and Jermale Wilkerson are great at giving me new ideas or ways to repurpose content simply by sharing their stories on their own business challenges. It’s been so important to have other people who are trying to make their way in different industries to keep me focused on the fact that obstacles exist in all walks of life.

We’ve been impressed with Peach State Basketball, Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We specialize in assisting middle to high school aged prospects looking to play basketball at the collegiate level. Our hands on approach in every aspect of the process makes us the only provider nationwide to serve as a true one stop shop for families in this process. For players aiming to play at the next level, we’re a resource with over 10,000 prospects assisted since our inception.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t quit. The road can be lonely, tough and even treacherous at times but don’t quit on your dreams. Also, once you start to turn a profit, start investing. The power of compound interest is an absolute game changer.
