Today we’d like to introduce you to Bre Ponder.
Hi Bre, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began training in 2012 while working at my local shelter. Many dogs were being returned for issues that were fairly easy for me to fix. Quickly I began to grow a passion in helping owners and their dogs live happier lives. For a few years I worked with about 10 different rescue organizations helping their staff and volunteers help their more ‘unadoptable’ dogs. In 2020, I opened a facility in Belleville, IL. Then in 2024, we moved out to the country in Trenton, IL. While much of my business has changed in the last few years, my ambitions have not. Keeping dogs in their homes, improving relationships, and building solid foundations is still what drives us everyday. My methods are very play based and cater to each individual dog. We offer a variety of programs from boarding and training, private lessons, day training, and group classes.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a business is never smooth. lol. I’ve loved every step of the way and appreciate the growth it allows me to have. Moving my business and changing my programs has definitely offered it’s own challenges.
As you know, we’re big fans of Helping Hounds Dog Training . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I train dogs and humans. I work with dogs of all shapes, sizes, issues, and ‘non-issues’. I am typically known for working with reactivity and aggression cases. With my background in shelter behavior, building dogs up from traumatic pasts has been many of the most rewarding cases.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I hope to still be here, serving the community
