Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since I was 12 years old, I have been involved in hairstyling in some shape or form. Although I knew I wanted to turn my passion for hair into a career, the path wasn’t always clear. After experiencing dissatisfaction in various jobs, I discovered my love for maintaining locs. What started as a side hustle has blossomed into a thriving business. Founded in 2021, in the wake of the tragic passing of my best friend, True Locs honors the memory of Tre through its mission and name. My love for my job and the joy of servicing my clients keep me motivated and inspired every day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is never easy. I started my business in 2021 to honor the loss of my best friend. Since then, I’ve had my own personal struggles that I’ve had to work through. On top of cosmetology school, finding a new salon home and funding my business out of pocket, the past few years have been rough. My mom and grandma passed away about a year apart so I lost 3 people that were very important to me during this journey but it motivates me to keep going. I hope I am making them proud !

What does success mean to you?
To me, success is setting a goal, being dedicated, reaching the goal, but always seeing room for expansion. In my opinion, success is not just doing one thing and being satisfied, it’s constantly improving, taking criticism and then going to the next level. Successful people never stop.
