Exploring Life & Business with Carlene Farrell of Chayil Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlene Farrell.

Hi Carlene, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my journey with a clear sense of purpose and a deep conviction to serve. The Chayil Foundation was born out of both lived experience and a genuine awareness of unmet needs within the community—particularly among individuals and families who lacked access to consistent support, resources, and advocacy. What started as a vision to help on a smaller, grassroots level quickly evolved into a structured organization once I recognized the broader impact that could be achieved through intentional programming and strategic partnerships.
Reaching where I am today has required discipline, faith, and perseverance. I invested time in learning the nonprofit landscape, building strong governance, and surrounding myself with individuals who shared the same commitment to service and integrity. There were challenges along the way, including limited resources and the complexities that come with organizational growth, but each obstacle reinforced my resolve and sharpened my leadership.
Today, the Chayil Foundation stands as a reflection of that journey—rooted in purpose, guided by values, and focused on sustainable impact. I am proud of how far we have come, but I remain equally focused on where we are going. This work continues to be driven by a responsibility to uplift others, create meaningful opportunities, and leave a lasting legacy of empowerment and service.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not been a smooth road, and that is true of any work that is both purpose-driven and impactful. One of the earliest challenges was navigating limited resources while still addressing significant community needs. Building credibility, securing funding, and establishing the proper infrastructure required patience, strategic decision-making, and a willingness to learn quickly.
Some moments tested my resilience as a leader, balancing the emotional weight of the work with the operational demands of running a nonprofit. Serving others often means being exposed to difficult realities, and learning how to lead with compassion while maintaining sustainability was a critical growth point for me.
However, each challenge became an opportunity to strengthen the foundation of the organization. The struggles sharpened my leadership, reinforced the importance of accountability and partnerships, and deepened my commitment to the mission. While the road has had its obstacles, those experiences have been essential in shaping both the Chayil Foundation and the leader I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Chayil Foundation?
The Chayil Foundation is a purpose-driven nonprofit organization committed to empowering individuals and families through advocacy, education, and community-centered support. Our work is rooted in the belief that sustainable change occurs when people are not only served, but also equipped with the tools, confidence, and resources to thrive independently.
We specialize in programs that address both immediate needs and long-term development. This includes strategic outreach initiatives, educational programming, mentorship, and partnerships designed to strengthen communities from the inside out. What we are known for is our holistic approach, meeting people where they are while also providing structured pathways toward growth, stability, and self-sufficiency.
What sets the Chayil Foundation apart is our intentionality. We do not operate as a one-size-fits-all organization. Our programs are designed with cultural awareness, integrity, and measurable impact at the forefront. We prioritize relationship-building, accountability, and excellence in execution, ensuring that every initiative aligns with our mission and values.
From a brand perspective, I am most proud of the trust we have built within the communities we serve. Our name represents consistency, compassion, and credibility. Readers should know that when they engage with the Chayil Foundation, whether as a participant, partner, or supporter, they are aligning with an organization that is deeply committed to empowerment, transparency, and long-term impact. Our work is not about visibility alone; it is about legacy, transformation, and creating meaningful change that lasts.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For those just starting, my advice is to remain deeply rooted in your purpose while also committing to the process. Passion is essential, but structure, discipline, and consistency are what sustain the work over time. Take the time to understand your mission clearly, learn the operational and financial aspects of your organization, and do not be afraid to seek guidance from mentors and professionals who have navigated similar paths.
One of the most important lessons I wish I had learned earlier is that you do not have to do everything on your own. Building a strong team, establishing clear systems, and asking for support are not signs of weakness, they are indicators of effective leadership. Additionally, patience is critical. Growth does not always happen on your timeline, but progress is being made even when it is not immediately visible.
I would also encourage new leaders to protect their integrity and remain aligned with their values. Opportunities will arise that may look appealing but are not mission-aligned. Staying focused, setting boundaries, and leading with accountability will ultimately determine the longevity and impact of your work.
