Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmalita Boston.
Hi Carmalita, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Wife and mother, mental health service provider, and Evangelist. I grew up in the City of Rome GA . I was raised by my great grandmother along side my mother and siblings. We were poor but my great grandmother was a hardworking home provider and my mother worked as a banquet waitress and CNA. In 2016 my mother passed away suddenly due to a brief complication with her dialysis treatment. My family and I were devastated. I was lost and just didn’t know what to do ot where to turn. I’m a Christian and actively serve in the church and my community but nothing seemed to help me get over the pain of my mom’s passing. Around the time she passed I decided that I wanted to make some desserts for visiting family and friends and the repas service for our mom. Baking had never been a success, only cooking. I baked a pound cake and it was like magic. Everything in that moment changed. I made another cake and instantly I felt a little push to keep on living. I got through the funeral services, visiting with my 2 siblings, and family and suddenly the pain was worse all over again. I went back to the kitchen and created the moment that helped me to feel like life was worth living again. I posted a picture on social media and everyone begin calling and saying “we didn’t know you baked too”. So I continued to push and little by little I would get orders for every and anything I posted. I was overwhelmed with grief but I knew that life was worth more than I was giving it credit for. I remembered my mother who had me at 13 under the worst circumstances and vowed that as long as God could be at the forth front, I would serve him, and honor the life that my mother gave me inspite of the circumstances.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t been smooth and even today I question what was I thinking by leaving my 9 to 5 State Job, to barely profiting some months.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m caterer and store partner in Rome GA. I’m passionate about everything I cook and I put Jesus over everything. I served the mental health population for over 15 years and I continue to serve in whatever way fits the community and person that needs my help.
What does success mean to you?
I’m breathing, I’m living, generational curses are being broken because of me and who I desire to be.
