Hi Chanise, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For 10+ Marcus and I took pride in serving our country each and every day while serving active-duty Air Force. Upon separation from service, we sought out new and different ways to continue to serve others within our community. We moved to Atlanta from Denver, CO in 2010 and almost immediately we began to see so many entrepreneurs thriving. Those visions turned into a dream that we wanted to turn into our reality. In 2013 I took a medical retirement after a shocking diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. During my farewell gathering, a colleague kind of put me on the spot asking me what I was going to do next because me simply sitting at home didn’t seem like something I would be content doing. I took a moment to think and then shared my dream of owning a business with my family. Words of encouragement poured in and pushed me to really start researching different business options. While life quickly sped up for us, raising our kids and completing our college degrees, our dream never died. We really wanted to create and leave a legacy for our 4 daughters while showing them how hard work and sacrifice can pay off. We got back to our research on different business options that our entire family of 6 could somehow do together. After several different franchises were presented to us by our franchise consultant, we ultimately decided to team up with the Mosquito Hunters franchise. As someone too battling a lifelong disease, it was important for us to seek a business that would not only provide a quality service, but a service that helps prevent the spread of other debilitating diseases such as Zika, West Nile and Lyme’s Disease. After a successful first year in business where we exceeded our goal by approximately 30%, we remember to remain humble, grateful and determined to do and be better as we continue on our journey. We reset our goals to grow our business, provide jobs in our community and give back to the community whenever possible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t exactly say that it has been a smooth road. I feel like with any business, there will bumps in the road and challenges throughout the journey. How those obstacles are handled is what’s most important. If I had to choose something, I would say that our biggest struggle has been trying to please every customer. While we want to provide the best service possible, we have learned that not everyone is going to be satisfied and that’s OK. We just continue to do our best and move forward with integrity and grace.
