Today we’d like to introduce you to Chenitha Reddick
Hi Chenitha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
At the end of my 5th grade year, my mom enrolled me in middle school band class. My band director tested all of his students with different instrument mouthpieces to see how well we could bring out a natural sound. The next day, the band director had a list with everyone’s name by their instrument. I saw that my name by ‘Trombone’, and I said, “iiiieeewwww, Trombone?! Oh no!” I was upset because I wanted to play the saxophone like Kenny G. But I stuck with it and grew to love it, and I still play to this day! My influences are Roy Hargrove, Delfeayo Marsalis, Trombone Shorty, Jeff Bradshaw, Wycliffe Gordon, and Fred Wesley. I am a member of Delta Omicron International Professional Music Fraternity, Inc. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Morris Brown College with a Bachelors Degree in Music in 2003 with Honours while being a part of the Morris Brown College Marching Wolverine Band. I am a renowned Atlanta musician who loves to support my artist and musician friends just as much as I love performing. While attending Morris Brown College, I played in the movie Drumline, recorded and performed for major artists in music videos with Outkast, Killer Mike, Lil John and the East Side Boyz, and Bone Crusher. I, also, performed for ESPN Superbowl Specials. After attending Morris Brown College, I continued performing and recording for other major artists and was on the Netflix season finale for Cobra Kai. I was a musician aboard the Norwegian Star Cruise line. I performed for Urban One Honors in 2021 and 2022 under the direction of Kim Burse. Artists I performed with during the award shows were H.E.R., Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant, Tank, Da Brat, Ne-yo, Tasha Cobbs-Leonard, Tyrese, Erica Campbell, Avery Sunshine, and LeAndria Johnson. I released my first single entitled “80’s Baby” August of 2021. My new single is coming this Summer!!!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not a smooth road by far. Of course, when just starting out, you’re not as savvy of certain techniques and ways of the professional musician corporate world. Also, being a double minority didn’t help. We, as young African-American Woman, have to fight a little bit harder than most. As a caterpillar morphs into a butterfly, so will you. Keep the faith, hang around like minded individuals, and get a great mentor!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
7 Positions Music and Image Consultants, LLC is a musician referral service that promotes exquisite musicianship, etiquette, ethics, and style. I am proud to say that my satisfied clients are some of the top band leaders in the Atlanta Area and across the country!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people don’t know that I have a full time day job. They always see me out performing at jam sessions and other events during the week and on the weekends. The key is time management, rest, and self-care.
