Exploring Life & Business with Christopher McLaren Jr of Deathpool News L.LC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher McLaren Jr.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I come from humble beginnings as a Jamaican descendant and a proud military child, born in South Carolina, raised in North Carolina, and rooted in Queens, New York for more than two decades. Growing up, I learned early what resilience, discipline, and adaptability truly meant. In 2010, after graduating from John Adams High School, I pursued football and track with a passion that earned me a partial scholarship to Hudson Valley Community College, where I studied psychology and sports science. At that time, I thought athletics would be the path that carried me forward.

But life has a way of shifting direction the moment you least expect it. In 2014, I stepped into the world as DJ Deathpool, gaining recognition from platforms like Vibe, MTV News, and Complex. Even with that momentum, I still felt a sense of searching—until my father placed a camera in my hands. That gift changed everything. It became the bridge between who I was and who I was meant to become.

Photography opened a new chapter. Under the mentorship of Felipe E. Machado (Mach357) and Brother Michael Katlow Cox, I began sharpening my eye, my discipline, and my vision. From there, my passion only grew. By 2021, I joined the Evening Experience Radio Show and later worked with PIPE TV and On the Move with Mz. Tonni. I expanded my craft into cinematography, videography, TV taping, content creation, and behind-the-scenes storytelling. Along the way, I had the honor of capturing moments with individuals such as Denzel Washington Jr., Cappadonna, Zab Judah, Whoopi Goldberg, Lenny Green, Kid Capri, Emcee N.I.C.E., Special Ed, Canton Jones, and DJ Drewski.

In 2023, I even explored amateur boxing, reminding myself once again that growth often comes from stepping outside your comfort zone. By 2024, my work with PIPE TV productions helped solidify my commitment to photography and the art of visual storytelling. That dedication led to earning 2nd place in the Behind-the-Scenes Achievement Awards for Photographer of the Year—an acknowledgment that humbled me and fueled me all at once.

In 2025, I relaunched my brand, Deathpoolnews LLC, with a renewed purpose: to serve my community, support meaningful causes, and push the boundaries of creativity. My journey has been far from linear, but every twist and turn has shaped the innovator I strive to be today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Creating DEATHPOOLNEWS has been anything but effortless. The road came with its own set of challenges, and each one shaped the platform into what it is becoming today. In the early stages, the biggest hurdles were consistency, visibility, and finding a voice that stood out in a crowded digital landscape. Building trust with an audience required time, discipline, and constant creative adjustment.

There were also technical challenges — learning new production workflows, managing equipment, editing under pressure, and balancing quality with speed. On top of that came the business side: figuring out branding, understanding analytics, and overcoming moments when growth felt slow or unpredictable.

Even with these obstacles, every setback became a lesson. Each challenge pushed the platform to evolve, sharpen its identity, and move with more intention. The journey hasn’t been smooth, but the grind built endurance, confidence, and a clearer vision for what DEATHPOOLNEWS is meant to become.
