Exploring Life & Business with Cinammon Keens-Douglas of The Spice Isle Notary LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cinammon Keens-Douglas.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Cinammon Keens-Douglas, and I’m the founder of “The Spice Isle Notary”, a mobile notary business based in Flowery Branch, Georgia. The name “Spice Isle” is very personal to me—it’s inspired by my upbringing and family roots in Grenada, which is known as the Spice Isle of the Caribbean. Although I was born in the United States, my upbringing and culture have always been deeply connected to Grenada. I wanted my business to reflect not only professionalism, but also warmth, culture, and the sense of service that I grew up with. When I launched The Spice Isle Notary, my goal was to create a service that was not only professional and reliable, but also approachable and community-focused. I wanted clients to feel comfortable asking questions and confident that their documents were being handled with care and integrity.

Like many entrepreneurs, my journey started with curiosity and a desire to build something of my own. I initially became commissioned as a notary because I was interested in learning more about the process and how notaries help facilitate important legal and financial documents. My interest quickly grew into a deeper passion when I learned how essential notaries are in people’s lives—whether it’s helping someone complete estate planning documents, verifying identity for employment, or assisting families during important milestones. Since launching, the journey has been both challenging and rewarding. Building a business requires patience, consistency, and a willingness to learn every day. I’ve spent a lot of time refining my services, connecting with other professionals, and continuously educating myself on best practices to ensure I’m providing the highest level of service possible.

Today, my work focuses on mobile notarizations, estate planning documents, I-9 employment verification, and loan signing services. One of the things I enjoy most about this work is meeting people from all walks of life and being able to help during moments that matter to them. Entrepreneurship has also taught me a lot about resilience and growth. Every experience—both the wins and the challenges—has helped shape my vision for the future. My goal is to continue growing The Spice Isle Notary while building a legacy of professionalism, trust, and service in the community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most entrepreneurial journeys, it definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges when starting The Spice Isle Notary was learning how to build and grow a business from the ground up while still balancing my full-time career. I quickly discovered entrepreneurship requires a lot of patience, consistency, and faith, especially in the early stages when you’re investing time, energy, and resources before seeing significant results. There’s also a lot of misinformation out there, so I had to spend time researching, learning from experienced professionals, and finding reliable resources to ensure I was operating correctly and ethically.

Like many small business owners, there were also moments of self-doubt in the beginning. When you’re building something new, you sometimes question whether you’re doing enough or moving fast enough. But those moments ultimately helped push me to keep improving, refining my services, and continuing to grow. Over time, those challenges turned into valuable lessons. I’ve learned that success in business doesn’t happen overnight—it’s built through consistency, relationships, and a genuine passion for what you do. Every obstacle has helped strengthen my mindset and clarify my vision for the future of The Spice Isle Notary.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Spice Isle Notary LLC?
My logo also reflects that connection. It features the outline of Grenada along with a quill and a nutmeg. The quill represents the written word and the work I do as a notary, while the nutmeg symbolizes Grenada’s rich history and identity as the Spice Isle. The logo was designed by Ms. Daniele Peters, a talented Grenadian graphic designer, and it was important to me to collaborate with someone from Grenada so the design would authentically represent the inspiration behind my brand.

What sets The Spice Isle Notary apart is my commitment to professionalism while still creating a comfortable and approachable experience for clients. Many people encounter notaries during important moments in their lives—whether they are completing estate planning documents, verifying employment paperwork, or finalizing financial documents—so I strive to make the process smooth, respectful, and trustworthy.

What I’m most proud of is the reputation I’ve been building within the community. My goal has always been to create a business that people feel confident recommending to their family, friends, and colleagues. I focus heavily on professionalism, education, and continuous improvement so that my clients know they are receiving accurate and reliable service.

Something else I’m really proud of when it comes to my brand is the trust I’ve been able to build within my community. The Spice Isle Notary is accredited by the Better Business Bureau, which represents my commitment to professionalism, transparency, and ethical business practices. As a notary, people trust me with very important documents and life moments, so operating with integrity is something I take very seriously. I’m also incredibly grateful for the positive reviews my clients have shared, because those testimonials mean that the service, care, and professionalism I strive to provide are truly being felt by the people I serve.

For me, The Spice Isle Notary is more than just a business—it’s a reflection of my values, my heritage, and my commitment to building something meaningful within my community.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe the notary industry will continue evolving alongside technology while still maintaining the importance of trusted, in-person services. We’re already seeing shifts toward remote and electronic notarization in many states, and technology will continue to change how documents are executed and verified. However, even with those advancements, there will always be a strong need for knowledgeable and professional notaries who can guide clients through the process and ensure documents are executed properly.

I also see mobile notary services continuing to grow. People today value convenience more than ever, and the ability for a notary to travel to a client’s home, workplace, hospital, or other location makes the process much easier during important or time-sensitive moments.

Looking ahead, I believe the future of the industry will belong to notaries who focus on professionalism, adaptability, and client experience. My goal with The Spice Isle Notary is to continue evolving with those changes while maintaining the personal, trustworthy service that clients value.
