Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Love.
Hi Crystal, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an Atlanta native, born and raised in the S.W.A.T.S. I graduated from Mays High School and have a B.S. in Communications from the University of Miami. I started my career in PR but learned pretty quickly that it wasn’t for me. I then landed in fundraising, where I began planning donor events and that’s when I realized I was a really good event planner. I eventually got my CMP (certified meeting professional), PMP(project management professional) and made event management my career. Fast forward a few years and I began to lean into entrepreneurship.
On a personal side I describe myself as one part sweet, one part sass and one part sparkle. For me this means I lead with my heart, learn by breaking the rules and live for excitement.
Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like. Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am a serial entrepreneur and started my first business ten years ago. I had been working for a company for a few years and was passed over for a promotion I felt I was well qualified for. Instead of sticking around, I quit, and haven’t looked back since. I launched my first Event Management business a few months after quitting and still have that business to this day. After starting my first business I have launched a few other ventures that were not financially successful, but they taught me a little about a lot of things related to starting a business. Now, I have taken all those lessons, failures and f*ck ups to launch PERFECTAHOLIC.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
PERFECTAHOLIC is a business on a mission, to help women break-up with perfection. We launched in September of this year and are laser focused on creating a movement to influence acceptance, flaws, and authenticity. Women are constantly made to feel as though they must be physically perfect in addition to being perfect spouses, mothers, friends, etc. PERFECTAHOLIC wants to change the conversation and teach women how to give themselves permission to be a little less “perfect” and a little “messier”. Currently, we are focused on spreading the word and getting our name and mission out into the world. We have merchandise (shirts, hats, decals, mugs, etc.) for sale via our website in addition to our signature digital guide on how to write a break-up letter to perfection.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I wrote an article for Entrepreneur.com a couple of years ago that I think really summarizes the advice I always give people and wish I knew when starting out. The article was titled “Got Dumped? Congrats, You’re Now Ready to Start a Business!”, and it explained how learning to deal with painful personal relationships prepares you for all the ups and downs of starting a business. No one starting a business should expect things to go exactly as planned. Stuff happens, money gets tight, your passion for your business may wane. Accepting this and creating space for the unknown will save you a lot of frustration and disappointment on your journey.
