Hi Crystal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I definitely had an interesting career journey. I decided to leave my corporate, Regional HR management position and switched to the jewelry industry as a diamontologist. Who doesn’t love diamonds and less stress?
I also owned and operated a Crystal Palace Hat’s & Boutique in Elkhart, IN with my mother. This is where I created one-of-a-kind hats. I not only sold clothing and accessories, but I was also able to offer glam to cancer survivors by fitting and supplying them with wigs and hats in a private setting. As chairwoman of the American Cancer Society’s Tell A Friend program of Elkhart County, The ACS HairNow! program supplied free new wigs for me to offer cancer patients in my retail boutique.
I found love and relocated to Georgia. I have always wanted to own and operate a spa after being introduced to skincare and self-care services many years ago by my mother and grandmother. I watched my mom doing her regular skin care regimens daily and weekly. She would go to the spa all while I was growing up. One year I will never forget when I was almost a teenager and she took me on a weekend retreat to French Lick, IN. We stayed at an amazing spa resort.” I would love to go back there with my mother one day”. We went horseback riding and shared delicious cuisines together. During our fabulous retreat, we were treated to an afternoon of enjoyable spa services.
I was so amazed at the facials, body wraps, massages, manicures and pedicures that we received, I felt so pampered and relaxed from the care and attention to detail of the services rendered, I fell in love with the spa industry. I was inquisitive about the technician’s professional title, she stated that she was an esthetician. I knew at that point that I wanted to learn everything about the spa industry, so I pursued my dream once the opportunity presented itself.
My career in the skincare industry started in 2011 after graduating with honors from the International School of Skin, Nail Care and Massage Therapy. I continued studies and earned additional certifications and training in Microdermabrasion, Microcurrent, Professional Product Knowledge, Speed Waxing, Body Wraps, Brows, Lash Applications, Enzyme Peels, Glycolic Peels, LED, Reflexology, Ear Candling, Ultrasonic, Aromatherapy and more. I have taken continual education classes annually at the International Dermal Institute of Atlanta, Local and International spa conventions to stay current in the skincare industry.
After working in the industry for over nine years, perfecting my craft, I decided to become an independent business owner. I put my trust in God and received the vision to open up my spa in February of 2020. My business Fancy Wax and Body Wraps Day Spa Studio became a reality.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, the road has not been easy. I opened Fancy Wax and Body Wraps Day Spa Studio in 2020, during the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic. After being open for only a few weeks the state and government-mandated closures for salons and spas. My spa business was closed for several months. With the shortage of PPE and the unknown, my life was placed on pause. Needless to say, I had challenges along the way that have made me stronger.
We’ve been impressed with Fancy Wax & Body Wraps Day Spa Studio LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Fancy Wax & Body Wrap Day Spa Studio is set apart because we offer a variety of services as the name indicates. My organization is a modern-day chic spa, servicing clientele with facials, waxing and body wraps are just a few of the services.
I produre handmade soaps, body butters, lip butters and I also offer an advanced luxury skincare line featuring: cleansers, exfoliates, serums, masks, and moisturizers. The majority of my products are handcrafted, vegan, paraben-free and phthalate-free.
My marketing and services are geared to build a clientele base that will not only be guests in our spa but also building lifelong relationships by providing extraordinary customer service to each and every one.
What are you most proud of brand wise?
Fancy Wax and Body Wraps Day Spa strives to offer positive effective result driven treatments, relaxing spa experiences. We also have retail skincare products that are vegan and handcrafted which are available. Our superlative waxing and spa service techniques that we have perfected over the years through continued education and practices are second to none.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would be:
Plan, work hard on the plan and give all that you have.
Do not self-sabotage and do not get discouraged.
Give yourself grace.
Anything you wish you knew when you were starting out?
I wish I knew that the Covid-19 had already been identified and that it would become a Pandemic that affected every industry and the entire economy.
