Today we’d like to introduce you to Deon Tucker.
Hi Deon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Deon Tucker, and I am the Owner and CEO of Tucker Veterans Disability Services, LLC. I proudly served in the United States Army for eight years as an aircraft mechanic, during which I was deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I am Airborne qualified and was honorably discharged after completing my service.
Following my military career, I worked as a jet engine mechanic at Pratt & Whitney, where I took on roles of increasing responsibility over a 25-year career, ultimately retiring as a Senior Customer Program Manager.
After Pratt & Whitney, I felt a strong calling to pursue work centered on service to others. Prior to retiring, I began the process of filing my own VA disability claims and quickly discovered how complex and time-consuming the system could be. Finding clear information and guidance was a daunting challenge. As I spoke with fellow veterans, I realized my experience was far from unique—veterans across the country were facing the same obstacles.
These experiences motivated me to become a VA-accredited claims agent and provide meaningful resources to help veterans obtain the benefits they have earned. In 2021, I began my journey toward VA certification, and in that same year, I founded Tucker Veterans Disability Services, LLC.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, I am blessed to say that the road to building a successful business has been relatively smooth. That said, there were certainly initial challenges. First and foremost, there is an overwhelming number of veterans who find the VA disability claims process extremely challenging. Many veterans are not fully informed about the benefits they may qualify for, while others are misdirected by agencies or individuals who are less committed to providing quality service—or who may be more focused on profits than on what is truly in the best interest of the veteran.
Like any growing business, we also faced the challenge of developing effective strategies to scale operations. This included identifying ways to attract new clients, building brand awareness through marketing, and implementing the right technology systems and tools to streamline workflows and improve efficiency. Much of our operational success is credited to my wife, Dr. Deborah Sykes-Tucker who serves as the Vice President of Operations of TVDS and is also a trained Veteran Service Officer. Her leadership and expertise have been instrumental in building strong, efficient processes.
Our growth has been largely organic, with approximately 75% of new clients coming through referrals from past clients, which speaks to the trust and results we provide. The remaining 25% of our growth comes from targeted marketing efforts. Additionally, changes in VA law and government governance can present ongoing challenges, as the VA continues to evolve and implement new policies. Staying informed and adaptable is essential to ensuring we continue to serve veterans effectively.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Tucker Veterans Disability Services (TVDS), our mission is simple yet powerful: to ensure that every veteran receives the full range of benefits they have rightfully earned through their service. Navigating the VA disability system can be overwhelming—full of complex rules, extensive documentation requirements, and often confusing processes that leave many veterans unsure where to begin or what they even qualify for. That is where our organization steps in and makes a real difference.
TVDS is staffed by VA-accredited claims agents with deep knowledge of VA policies, procedures, and regulations. What we do is much more than filling out forms—we work closely with each veteran to understand their unique service history, medical background, and personal circumstances, and then build a customized strategy to pursue every benefit they may be entitled to. Our veteran-centered approach means no two claims are treated the same, and every client receives personalized advocacy and support every step of the way.
What truly sets us apart is our heart for service and our unwavering commitment to veterans. We don’t just help with paperwork—we stand beside our clients as trusted advocates. Our work is grounded in respect for military service and a genuine desire to lift the burden of bureaucracy off those who have already carried so much for our country. Whether a veteran is filing their first claim, seeking increases, or navigating appeals, we bring clarity, compassion, and expertise to what can otherwise be an intimidating journey.
We are proud that our services extend nationwide and even globally—supporting veterans wherever they are through secure digital tools so they never feel alone or unsupported in the process.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve earned within the veteran community. Our growth has been largely organic, with a significant portion of new clients coming through referrals—veterans who have worked with us and then recommended our services to fellow service members. That’s not only a marker of quality; it’s a testament to the impact we’re having in people’s lives.
For many veterans, the VA disability benefits process can feel like a maze—but we strive to be a guiding light. We want people to know that TVDS is more than a service provider: we are advocates, allies, and partners in helping veterans secure the benefits they’ve earned through sacrifice and dedication. We don’t take that responsibility lightly, and we consider it one of the highest honors of our lives to serve those who served us.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I can’t say that I have one single favorite childhood memory, but if I had to choose, it would be going camping with my dad in Seattle, Washington. He took me and my brothers, Chris and Antoine, along with my cousins Kim, Tony, and Derrick. It wasn’t anything extravagant—just a simple camping trip—but it was filled with laughter, adventure, and genuine joy. Those moments of togetherness are memories I’ve carried with me ever since.
