Today we’d like to introduce you to Dillon Wilson.
Hi Dillon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a US Army Veteran, a visionary Film & TV Director ‘Retired’ Stunt Coordinator and Lead Actor with more than ten years of experience in the film industry. I started my career as a professionally trained actor and skilled stunt performer worked for years and then decided to go back and get more training/mentorship to become a professional stunt coordinator.
I then started C.B.T. Stunt Alliance, an Elite Tactical Stunt team specializing in playing Elite Military Operators (i.e., U.S. Army – DELTA FORCE, SEAL Team 6, S.W.A.T, etc.). Dillon acquired extensive experience in military / paramilitary / counter-terrorism training for use in film & TV over the years. We were often hired to train actors & stunt performers in tactical firearms training and stunts for film & TV.
I then got hired as a professional armorer for film & TV with 1 of the largest armorers in the US and was trained by experts with more than 3 decades in the business. I’m a Licensed/permitted Armorer for the film, TV and entertainment industry with the California Department Of Justice as well as have my Dangerous Weapons Permits (darn near impossible to get in California) with the California Department Of Justice.
After stunt coordinating for years with a variety of productions, I got tired of directors butchering my work in post-production, so I attended and graduated film school as a director. Since then, Dillon has went on to become an award-winning filmmaker. His awards include: 3 awards for ‘Best Feature Film’; 1 for ‘Best Anthology’; as well as 2 nominations for ‘Best Director’ and 1 nomination for ‘Best Stunt Coordinator’.
Productions loved working with me because not only was I an experienced stunt coordinator yet also being a director I spoke their same language. Plus, I not only knew how to coordinate the action sequences yet how to shoot them for less money, in less time yet with the same or BETTER production value. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the issues is there’s a good ole boys network in the US stunt community where instead of it being qualifications and experience based, they wish to keep it “do you know this person” based. Nod nod wink wink.
Fortunately, productions don’t think that way yet a good number of the older stunt coordinators and stunt performers have been conditioned to think this way. This can determine who they train and take under their wing.
Fortunately, I was “adopted” by an experienced stunt coordinator and mentored by him. That’s why I started PROStuntTraining.com to make it so that ANYONE who is sincere and really wants it can get their chance to start & grow a career in film and TV.
