Exploring Life & Business with Douglas James Young of Freeze Cream

Today we’d like to introduce you to Douglas James Young.

Hi Douglas, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started with the love of encouagaring and inspiring people. Outside of Freeze Cream I have always had a love for music. I have always been a great cook and always had a love for food and fellowship. Before Freeze Cream I was working at a restaurant I developed an understanding for the food industry. Wanted to start a restaurant called “h.o.s.” (home of sauces). But after doing a business plan I didn’t have enough capital to start on my own. So, within that, a friend showed me a video of rolled ice cream in 2014. It was unique and at the time no one in Georgia was doing it. So, I decided to step out and try it for myself. So, I basically order the equipment and got certified in food safety. After basically getting everything going, I didn’t have a storefront, so I landed a demo in a BP gas station in Roswell ga. The name Freeze Cream came from me not being able to consume dairy. After getting the demo in the BP gas station we popped off and started doing events and festivals and birthdays, wedding and etc. At this time, I had 2 kiosk in the bp gas station. After working long hours and working long nights we finally opened up a store front at a standard long location in Helen ga. Then after opening in Helen, I then opened in John’s Creek. From John’s Creek I has started a festival called indie green festival which was hosted in 5 cities and averaged to about 3,000 people. And then covid happen so that shut down 2 stores and minimize our traveling services. By the grace of God, I was able to maintain Freeze Cream due to covid while many other businesses were unfortunate.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Covid was a pretty big. Being blacked owned it takes a lot. You have a lot of different people looking up to you. I just want to say I am blessed to have the support of my family and friend. Finding the right team was a little bit of a struggle as well

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
