Exploring Life & Business with Dr. Kahlyah Colonel of The Chiro Lounge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kahlyah Colonel.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In high school, I knew I wanted to become a Doctor. I just was not sure which route I wanted to take. I originally went to FAMU for Pharmacy, but soon realized that I didn’t align with being a pharmacist. When I transferred back to Clayton State University, I used my time in undergrad to explore different avenues in healthcare. I shadowed a lot of professions such as nursing, dentistry, sonography, Medicine, public health and even healthcare HR. It wasn’t until I graduated undergrad and got a job as a Chiropractic Assistant that I started to learn more and more about Chiropractic and how people can benefit from alternative avenues in healthcare. After 4 months of working as a CA and seeing how patients loved chiropractic, I enrolled in Chiropractic school and now 4 years later I have graduated with my Doctor of Chiropractic and I’m opening up my own business to be able to spread chiropractic and holistic wellness to as many people as I can reach.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth. For one, Chiropractic school is very hard. We take between 27-30 credit hours a quarter. The classes are not easy. They are science based classes as well as a ton of radiology classes. Our curriculum is equivalent to an MD or DO program. On top of that, we have to take a total of 5 board exams, OSCE, mid terms and finals while still having to care for patients in student and out-patient clinic. I also got pregnant and had my baby in my program, which was no where near easy. My baby would have to come to class with me and my professors would hold him while I did my work. It took a lot of grit, dedication and prayer to get through my chiropractic program. The board exams were not easy. I had to take some parts over to pass them. Im not ashamed of having to retake some board exams. To me, it shows just how dedicated I was to hold a title as high as Doctor.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Chiro Lounge is a boutique, membership-based chiropractic practice in Decatur, GA designed to be “A Safe Space For Healing”. I created this practice to offer a more personal, intentional approach to chiropractic care, one that feels warm, grounded, and truly centered around the patient experience. Instead of the typical clinical environment, The Chiro Lounge was built to feel like home and provide a calming atmosphere that helps patients exhale the moment they walk in.

I provide care for all individuals looking for general wellness care. I am also a Webster Technique Certified chiropractor, allowing me to provide safe chiropractic care to pregnant women during and after their pregnancy. I am also a Registered Yoga Teacher, DOT Medical Examiner and soon to be Pediatric Certified Chiropractor. I support women through pregnancy, help children move and grow safely, and guide families towards healthier lifestyles. I am here to serve anyone that is seeking consistent wellness care.

What sets The Chiro Lounge apart is our C.A.R.E model- Chiropractic adjustments, Anti-Inflammatory Nutrition, Rest and Mediation, and Exercise/Movement. I don’t just focus on the spine, I focus on the whole person. Patients receive simple, sustainable guidance that they can take home and apply to their everyday lives.

I am also proud of our membership-based structure because it removes barriers that keep people from getting the consistent care they need. Instead of feeling rushed or like just another number, patients at The Chiro Lounge get time, attention, and a long-term wellness partnership.

Brand-wise, I am proud of the environment that I am creating. The Chiro Lounge is intentionally designed to be inclusive, family- friendly, culturally aware, and emotionally safe, especially for women and children of color who often feel unseen in healthcare spaces. My goal is for every patient to walk out feeling better physically and more supported mentally and emotionally.

For Readers, I want them to know that The Chiro Lounge is more than chiropractic adjustments. It is a healing experience. From prenatal support, pediatric chiropractic, youth sports care, corporate wellness plans, DOT Physicals, Cupping, Stretching, and more, everything we offer is rooted in education, empowerment, and long-term wellness.

This is the place where individuals and families can heal together, grow together, and feel supported every step of the way.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is family. An acronym that I use for family is “Forget About Me, I Love You”. My name Kahlyah and a derivative of the name Khalil, which means friend. The one thing that brings me so much joy is being able to spend and give times with others, especially my closest family and friends.
