Exploring Life & Business with Gregory Rutledge Jr of Atlanta Barber Institute

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Rutledge Jr.

Gregory, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I picked up my first pair of clippers at 12 years of age in my Mom’s kitchen. In 2012, I pursued and furthered my education within the industry because I knew I could not stand behind the barber chair forever. I did the research for the State of Georgia and at that time, there was less than one barber instructor per school. I never turned back. Besides being one of the top Licensed Master Educators in the barber industry, I’m certified in SMP. College educations arestrongly encouraged and often forced on a child at an early age before they’ve had a chance to discover who they are and what they like. There is another way to career success for those who are interested and passionate, and Atlanta Barber Institute is amongst their choices.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Opening a school is nothing like opening the average business. There are several moving parts that must align. Federal, State, and Local Government regulations place additional restrictions on education facilities. Therefore, a good and solid team is essential. It took 2 1/2 years to build our team. We faced many unexpected obstacles along the way, but we maintained our vision and persevered.

We’ve been impressed with Atlanta Barber Institute, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
