Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac Waters.
Hi Isaac, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Working in recovery has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I am lucky enough to have started my recovery journey as a teenager and have been sober since the age of 19. I started my journey in the field when I wanted to go to college. I didn’t know if college was the best environment for a young person trying to stay sober, so I got involved in Collegiate Recovery and started the program at the College of Charleston. I studied entrepreneurship in college and always wanted to start my own practice. I teamed up with a childhood friend, Andrew Cranny, to build what is now Recovery Frameworks. Our mission is to provide Recovery Coaching, Sober Companions, and Interventions of the highest quality throughout the South East. Recovery Frameworks moved our headquarters to Atlanta in the Summer of 2022 and Atlanta has been the most welcoming, inspirational, and educational place to fulfill our dreams of running a successful company. The spirit of collaboration and hospitality is something that I love about owning a small business in this city.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think running your own business is ever a smooth road. I wish I could say that it has been nothing but sunshine and unicorns, but that wouldn’t be true. We started our business in March of 2020, the first days of the pandemic and lockdowns. I think we used it as an opportunity to grow in our understanding and our offerings to our customers. Now, the biggest challenge we find is scale. What makes a successful company continue to grow, and how do we do so in the right areas? We have ups-and-downs and celebrate every little victory we have as a team.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Recovery Frameworks offers non-clinical support services to supplement the teams of individuals with substance use disorder and eating disorders. Our mission is to support and empower the individuals that we work with to make their journey into recovery as seamless as possible. We do this by tailoring our services to the unique needs of the case through a suite of offerings and maintaining a roster of trained coaches who come from a wide range of experiences. Our services were designed to be tailored to each individual. We allow you and your treatment team to develop the program you need to fit your recovery plan.
Coaches fit into a client’s schedule to help develop goals, track progress and provide the tools necessary to succeed in recovery. They provide clear-cut directions for the client in order to offer the greatest opportunity for success and to build confidence in their new way of life.
Interventions assist individuals and their families with establishing the life skills and changes necessary for long-term health and recovery, preventing premature dropout from treatment services, and coordinating appropriate aftercare for the individual.
Companions utilize all the tools and layers of support that our coaches do. They integrate themselves into a client’s daily life, creating continual accountability, build structure for their clients, and identify key supports for their recovery journey.
Think of companions as a 24/7 support structure to stay motivated with recovery goals, stay safe and secure, and to build deep bonds with a role model to keep going on the recovery journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t really think about luck that often. I have always identified with the thought that luck is only available to people who are ready for it. So, it’s my job to make sure that I am prepared, and that our company is prepared for the moment that opportunity strikes. We have had several moments of new partnerships or collaborations that have seemed like it was “perfect timing” or “luck” that these things fell in our lap. The reality is that the hard work we had put in, and the hours, the connections, it all paid off to launch new ventures, new offerings, and new ways for us to serve our clients.
