Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Crowell.
Hi Jackie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey to become a Physical Therapist began while sitting in a health occupations class at the tender age of 14. I proceeded to work at the local PT clinic before school and was smitten. On the fast track, I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Pre-Physical Therapy in just three years, Magna Cum Laude. It was in physical therapy school that I learned physical therapists could help with urinary issues and sexual dysfunction which was fascinating to me. I hadn’t made the connection until that point that it was muscles that keep us dry! And who better to work with muscles than physical therapists! This led me to do an internship in this specialty. I moved to San Francisco after getting my doctorate where my husband was from and decided it would be ideal to get experience treating ‘all the things’ including backs, necks, knees and ankles first. After a few years, I began my continuing education learning all things pelvic floor. I had fantastic mentoring and by this time was pregnant with my second baby and began experiencing some of the struggles my patients were. This allowed me to see how important my work truly was and motivated me to become the best therapist I could. It was when we moved back to Atlanta in 2019 that I decided to open a pelvic floor physical therapy clinic where I grew up in Metro Atlanta. Progressive Pelvis is unique and offers exemplary care focusing on bowel, bladder, digestive and sexual dysfunction.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My road to becoming a physical therapist began at an early age and haven’t had one day of doubt that I chose the right career for me. This has made my path in many ways simple and focused. However, it quite some time to realize my value. I have come to find that I am much more than a physical therapist, I am a healer. I absolutely love what I do and feel grateful to serve the patients that come in my door. Being self-employed has its difficulties for sure. I am at a point in my career I feel ready for these challenges and welcome the opportunities it offers.
As you know, we’re big fans of Progressive Pelvis Physical Therapy. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Progressive Pelvis Physical Therapy opened in March 2020. Nope, I didn’t open because of the pandemic but was unlucky to hit the timing of the virus right on. We learned that Telehealth is actually pretty effective, who knew!?! This allows us to see patients on the other side of Atlanta and even Georgia. We offer orthopedic physical therapy AND specialize in pelvic floor issues. ALL genders are welcome at our office. This means we can treat your back, hips, knees and necks as well as urinary, bowel, digestive and sexual disorders. I have ample experience treating chronic pain and my favorite condition is any type of chronic pelvic pain. We offer exceptional care with a focus on customer service. Treating the whole patient is our goal and we offer techniques for addressing trauma and stress. Often our work leads to collaboration with other practitioners to achieve next-level wellness for our patients.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We work with Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Urologists, Gynecologists, Functional Medicine providers and Counselors/Therapists to collaborate on patient care. We often refer to Acupuncturists as well.
