Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Fortner.
Hi Jacob, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a Georgia native through and through. Born and raised right here. Growing up, if I wasn’t at school or church, I was in the woods, on the water, or somewhere playing music. I’ve always loved the outdoors and the creative side of things, and those are still big parts of my life today.
On the personal side, I actually married my high school sweetheart, Melissa, which has been awesome. My faith is also a huge part of who I am—it’s the compass for how I treat people and how I handle my business.
I think because of where I come from and how I grew up, I’ve always been big on loyalty and just doing things the right way. I take that same ‘stay-the-course’ mentality into my work—I like to dive in, build solid relationships, and stay committed to the goal until it’s done.
What started out in 2009 as one roofing sales commission I lucked into, has turned into living out my purpose in serving clients and associates in the General Contracting space.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We all face some kind of adversity along the way, and i’ve had some of my own. With that being said, i have been extremely blessed. From marrying my best friend and biggest supporter, to awesome mentors guiding me along the way. There have been lots of doors i tried to open and couldn’t, not knowing they were the wrong ones. Fortunately God has put me in the right places with the right people time and time again allowing me continued growth and support. Everyone loves an underdog story, but Honestly i think there’s an unspoken challenge for many, from millennial to gen Z, and it’s picking the right path and jumping in it head first. With seemingly endless opportunity, and the ability to see what everyone else is doing 24/7 via social media, I feel many struggle to find that thing that makes them jump out of the bed in the morning. Their real purpose and passion. When i think about struggles for the entrepreneurial spirit, i think about all that comes when you find that purpose and passion, jump in head first in faith, and burn the backup plan.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Let’s be honest: the roofing industry has a bit of a “shady” reputation. I saw way too much fraud and too many people getting the run-around in the first half of my career, so I decided to build RCF Construction to do things the right way. My approach is simple: I built this company on the core values of Truth and Loving People.
Our trademark is “The Truth About Your Roof.” That’s not just marketing—it’s how we operate. If your roof has five more years of life in it, we’re going to tell you exactly that. We don’t do high-pressure sales; we just give you the straight story so you can make the best choice for your property.
While “Roof” is in the slogan, we do a whole lot more. I’m a Licensed Commercial General Contractor here in Georgia, which means we’re fully equipped to handle residential, commercial, and multifamily projects. We do everything from interiors to exteriors—literally from the roofs to the floors.
We also make sure we stay at the top of our game with the best certifications in the business. We’re CertainTeed Shingle Master credentialed for residential work and Mule-Hide certified for our commercial roofing products. Basically, we have the “big company” credentials but with a local, “boots-on-the-ground” feel.
If you want to see how we treat our neighbors, just take a look at our 110+ five star Google reviews. We’ve kept a 5.0-star rating because we actually care about the people we’re working for. Not only that, we care about our employees and crew!
It’s pretty simple around here: Great people, great roofs!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
absolutely. 0f course I would not be where i am today without my Dad Mike’s guidance and consistency, and my Mom Tina’s endless love and support. The last decade though the award for greatest mentor, supporter, cheerleader, advocate and teammate, goes to my wife Melissa. She is such a steady, unshakable friend who has always seen the best in me and what i could become. There’s just no way I’d be where I am today without her. I have a few friends, like Garrett, Brad, and Miles, that stepped up at a pivotal moment in my career and became a powerhouse round table of discussion, ideas, and guidance. Lastly, I want to give a special mention to a client of mine from Decatur, the late Mr. Tom Flagg. Sometimes you meet someone and realize, this guy is on another level. The wisdom he shared, so directly, influenced a few decisions of mine that were the right ones. What started out as a simple roof inspection turned into a great impact on my life. He was a big part of my journey, and I’m proud to carry on the work with the values he helped me sharpen. Thank you again for the chance, Mr. Tom.
