Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jacqueline Floyd.
Hi Jacqueline, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey toward entrepreneurship can be traced back to the example set by my parents many years ago. They were pioneers in their time, instilling in me the importance of having multiple streams of income long before it was a popular concept.
My interest in real estate was piqued when my parents obtained their real estate licenses after retirement and practiced in the state of New York. As a successful team, with my father in the million-dollar club and my mother as a broker, they inspired me to pursue a career in real estate to continue their legacy. At the time I decided to pursue my real estate license, I was an experienced educator serving in a leadership and administrative role. Despite my busy schedule, I completed all of the required coursework in one summer and passed the state exam on my first attempt. In 2019, while in Washington DC to participate in my graduation ceremony to receive an honorary doctorate in philosophy, I seized the opportunity to test for my real estate license in the nation’s capital and obtained my second license. As a widely described overachiever, I am now working on acquiring my third real estate license in the state of South Carolina.
Upon receiving my Georgia license, I took a leap of faith and became a full-time realtor. Shortly after, I partnered with an investor who entrusted me to manage a multi-million-dollar portfolio. This experience exposed me to the investment side of real estate, and I gained valuable knowledge about fixing and flipping properties. After a couple of years, I shifted my focus to new construction and found fulfillment in working with buyers, particularly first-time homebuyers.
As a former educator, my goal is to teach first-time buyers about the home-buying process, enabling them to make informed decisions about the most significant investment of their lives. I take pride in building relationships with my clients and helping them achieve their dreams of homeownership. Over the past two years, I have generated nearly six million dollars in sales volume, all without a team of agents to collaborate with.
In summary, my journey has been shaped by the entrepreneurial spirit of my parents, my background in education, and my dedication to providing exceptional service to my clients. With a passion for real estate and a strong sense of purpose, I have been able to achieve remarkable success in the industry, and I look forward to continued growth in the future.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Embarking on the journey of entrepreneurship is rarely a smooth road. It requires grit, determination, and perseverance to succeed as a business owner. Moreover, you must have faith in yourself to keep pushing through the highs and lows. When starting a business, it is essential to be guided by purpose and passion. In my case, the driving force behind my success as a business owner has been my desire for flexibility in managing my time. This flexibility has allowed me to serve underserved communities both locally and globally. My business has granted me the freedom to travel to India multiple times, South Africa, and Kenya, using my gifts and talents to create a positive impact on a large scale.
For new agents, common struggles include finding clients, learning how to write contracts correctly, negotiating the best deals, managing transactions, and building relationships. However, it is crucial to recognize that there is always a learning period in any business, during which we should allow ourselves the grace to make mistakes and learn from them. An important lesson I learned early on was to seek advice from my broker and ask numerous questions as a newcomer to the field. Additionally, I made sure to take full advantage of the training available through my brokerage firm.
In conclusion, my journey as an entrepreneur has not been without challenges, but my strong sense of purpose and passion has helped me overcome them. By seeking guidance, embracing the learning process, and staying true to my mission, I have been able to grow my business while simultaneously having a meaningful impact on my community.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
During the COVID-19 crisis, I witnessed the true meaning of community in action. The pandemic brought to light the vulnerabilities of many people within our community, including our neighbors, co-workers, and friends. When my church decided to launch a local mission to feed community members in East Atlanta, specifically the Conyers community, I gained firsthand experience of the importance of not just being a local realtor but also contributing to and giving back to the community I serve. I eagerly volunteered each Saturday to help distribute food and eventually took on a leadership role in the mission. This involved coordinating with other local food distribution centers, recruiting people to support the mission, and implementing COVID protocols to ensure the safety of both volunteers and the 50-75 families we served each week.
Every Saturday, rain or shine, heat or cold, I would wake up early to be on-site, ensuring that community members received emergency food for their families. This experience taught me the value of compassion, resilience, and the power of coming together to support one another during difficult times. As a real estate professional, I now carry these lessons with me, and they continue to shape my approach to both my work and my involvement in the community.
