Today we’d like to introduce you to JahWill Fannings.
Hi JahWill, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
How does that work? Why is this there? How was that constructed?” These are just a few of the many questions that continue to drive my curiosity. From a young age, my parents nurtured this innate curiosity within me, and I’ve always been fascinated by how the world operates. Even before I understood the terms “engineering” and “psychology,” my brain was naturally drawn to these subjects. Growing up surrounded by the performing arts, I found my place as an actor in local theaters and a trombone player in the school band.
As I delved into learning the piano, I fell into an endless pit of music that could be created on those keys. The acoustic guitar became my third instrument, but it was on the piano where I truly felt at ease, composing songs and melodies. By the time I reached high school, I had begun experimenting with music production using an app on my phone. It was during this time that my meticulous engineering mind fell in love with the technical aspects of music production, particularly music mixing.
I dedicated myself to perfecting my music mixing and production skills, focusing my learning in this direction. In my junior year of high school, I started making a name for myself as a recording engineer in my hometown, recording my friends and local artists. By my senior year, I realized that this hobby had transformed into a potential full-time career path. Alongside recording artists, I also pivoted into understanding the business side of the industry.
Choosing to pursue a Music Technology Major at Georgia Tech seemed like a natural next step for me. Relocating to Atlanta opened up new opportunities, and as my business grew, so did the pace of my life. During this time, I continued to record, produce, and mix music not only for others but also for myself. In my first year of college, I released my debut album, and from there, my musical journey only gained momentum. I started performing at local venues, truly finding my voice as an artist. It was during this process that I discovered what I stood for—artistic expression and positive musical programming.
While I didn’t want to confine myself to a single genre as a creative, I recognized the importance of niching down to grow an audience. Consequently, I made the decision to separate my artistic expression into two personas: JahWill and his polar opposite, J@h. As JahWill, the pop artist, I focus on conveying the meaning of music, striving to push positive messages through intricate storytelling and catchy melodies. On the other hand, as J@h, the hip-hop artist, I explore the raw emotion within my music, presenting myself as an untamed and often more explicit artist. J@h expresses himself through hard-hitting beats and powerful vocal delivery.
Overall, my journey as an artist and music enthusiast has been shaped by my insatiable curiosity, my commitment to technical excellence, and my desire to evoke positive emotions through my music.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Yet, if it were, I wouldn’t be able to fully appreciate the destination or even the fleeting moments of smoothness along the way. Throughout my journey, I’ve confronted my own fears by stepping outside of my comfort zone. Balancing school work, studio commitments, artist life, and the necessity of sleep has taught me the invaluable lesson of time management. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve embraced the process of continuous growth and curiosity.
I am genuinely grateful for the path I’ve traveled thus far, with all its ups and downs. Each challenge has shaped me into the person I am today and has equipped me with the tools to overcome future obstacles. As I stand at this point in my journey, I am filled with excitement for what lies ahead. The future is brimming with endless possibilities, and I eagerly anticipate the next chapter of my story

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Creativity is the source of my happiness, particularly when I stumble upon that elusive piece of the puzzle I’ve been searching for. It plays a significant role in my life, as I perceive myself as a non-conformist, one who defies groupthink and embraces individuality with an unpredictable approach in all aspects, including my choice of words and the way I live.
Within my creativity, humor holds a special place and brings me immense joy. It has been a lifeline during challenging times, offering solace and lightness. Without it, I genuinely wonder where I would be today. It’s worth noting that my sense of humor has occasionally landed me in trouble, but I firmly believe that without it, I would not be the same person.
