James and Tia Russell, the passionate owners of Southern Brush Landworks and Construction. As a dedicated husband-wife team, James and Tia ensure that every project is handled with a perfect blend of personalized attention and professional expertise. With over a decade of experience in the construction industry, James brings a wealth of knowledge and a lifelong passion for agriculture and outdoor pursuits to the table. Inspired by the stunning vistas of the Blue Ridge mountains and the natural splendor of their surroundings, Southern Brush proudly serves the diverse communities of North Georgia. Beyond their business endeavors, James and Tia cherish spending time with their family on the farm, creating cherished memories with their daughter, Brynlee, and son, Waylon. They also find joy in gardening and caring for their animals. Through Southern Brush, they aspire to transform outdoor spaces for others, just as they have done for their own. I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has had its ups and downs, mostly ups, however some of the struggles were finding reliable help at the beginning on the operation side and navigating insurance audits on the “back office” side but we have now found a balance. We have a solid team behind us and look forward to the growth we are starting to experience!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Southern Brush offers many services from landworks to construction. To name a few, we offer: Forestry Mulching, grading, landscaping, sod, drainage repair, fencing, retaining walls, roofing, gutters, painting and home renovation. We even offer site set-ups and improvements for tiny homes and manufactured homes
We take great pride in being recognized and honored with multiple awards in Forestry Mulching and Tree Removal over the past couple of years, both by our local community and on a statewide level. These accolades reflect our unwavering commitment to excellence in both of our industries—construction and landworks. Striving to be the best in every aspect, we continue to dedicate ourselves to delivering top-tier services to our valued clients.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I believe there will always be a need for the work we do and by layering ourselves with multiple trades will always keep us relevant to our industry’s. Over the next 5-10 years we plan to stabilize our company by maintaining healthy relationships with our clients, crews and vendors to build a solid foundation for many years to come. We are family owned and operated and this is something my wife and I are passionate towards and would love to pass it to our kids one day as well!
