Hi Jamila, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have over 20yrs. of Management experience. 15yrs. of this experience was obtained during my experience at Big box Coffee Corporations. I learned to love and understand coffee. I started on a journey from the field to the cup. My Wife has an extensive background in counseling and management in Corporate America. We wanted to combine our passions and share it with my community. That’s how Coffee Snobs was born! We want to have conversations over Coffee with my community put the heart back into simply enjoying a cup of coffee.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been paved with its fair share of unforeseen obstacles. Trying to find a location within our community that could potentially provide a fair amount of foot traffic for what we had in mind has been the biggest challenge. However, my wife and I took a leap of faith, exhausted our savings and credit to build it within our community with the mindset of “if you build it, they will come!” We are beyond grateful for the amazing support that we have received from our community; and look forward to restoring our work/family balance.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Coffee Snobs, we’re more than just a coffee shop — we’re a community gathering space built around great coffee and even better service. Our specialty is creating experiences you don’t just drink, but truly savor. That’s why we’re known for our coffee flights.
We offer two kinds of flights that really set us apart. Our Seasonal Flight features drinks that change with the seasons, so there’s always something new and exciting to try. Our Brew Flight is an adventure for serious coffee lovers — we brew the same coffee four different ways and pair each one with a perfectly matched pastry, so you can explore the unique flavor notes that come through each brewing style.
But what really makes us stand out is our customer service. From the moment you walk in, you’re treated like a regular — whether it’s your first visit or your hundredth. My wife and I built this shop for the community, and we believe it’s our commitment to going the extra mile that keeps people coming back.
More than anything, I’m proud of the welcoming, down-to-earth brand we’ve created. We want readers to know that when you step into Coffee Snobs, you’re going to leave with a smile, a new favorite drink, and an experience that’s all about you.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Coincidentally; my Wife and I had similar backgrounds. We both grew up on the Southside of Chicago (Englewood and Chatham) and learned to be self sufficient, driven, and to bet on ourselves in order to provide the life we desired for us and our family.
Growing up, I was that kid who always had a book in one hand and a ball in the other. I loved reading — getting lost in stories, learning new things, and using my imagination. At the same time; I was super active and really into sports. Whether it was basketball, softball, or just racing my friends down the street; I thrived on movement and teamwork.
Personality-wise, I was curious and outgoing — always up for trying new things and meeting new people. That mix of being a bit of a bookworm and an athlete really shaped me into someone who loves balance: I appreciate a good challenge, but I also know the value of slowing down and enjoying the moment.
Growing up, My Wife was a quiet and naturally smart individual. She thrived in athletics and academics. She was the shy neighborhood kid who was always playing basketball, playing games, racing, or dancing. This afforded her the opportunity to secure scholarships to complete her BS at Northern Illinois University; and her MSP. She pursued her career in counseling the MISA (mentally ill substance abuser) population. This later acted as a catalyst for her to transition to Corporate America.
