Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarvis Jones.
Jarvis, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I birthed Wealthy Place Design Studios LLC out of a desperation for change in my life. Born on 7/7/21, WPDS was an answer to a calling on my life.
I’ve always known since I was a child, that I would impact the world. But I wasn’t quite sure of how I knew that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED putting smiles on people’s faces and touching their spirits. I spent my entire life in hospitality because I enjoyed being a part of people’s lives in the background.
It didn’t matter if I was the person responsible for them having a venue for their wedding or event or a nice place to sleep when they visited the hotels I’ve been employed by. Or even being a part of a restaurant group that created memorable moments during people’s most pivotal times in their life. I authentically enjoyed the journey. And really loved the anonymity of it all. I just played my role in the background to ensure smiles were captured and memories were created.
When the pandemic hit March 2020, I knew that my time was culminating in hospitality. The schedule became to grueling and the joy turned into disdained because of the limited help.
Without a plan, I quit my job in hospitality in September of 2020 and fell into the floral industry less than a week later because of my sister, Dean. I was instantly making people’s day one delivery at a time, and haven’t looked back since.
And 9 months later, I created my own flower shop, Wealthy Place Design Studios. The journey has truly been a roller coaster ride, but it’s been fun and rewarding the entire way. I have locked in with why I was born and there’s no looking back!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So this first year in business has taught me a tremendous amount of lessons. Because I didn’t grow up in the floral industry, nor had I never sent or received flowers before I started by business, I literally started at ground zero.
My first, second, third, lesson has been, get a dedicated accountant or accounting firm behind you. You must have someone that is dedicated to organizing your finances and helping you achieve the goals that you set for yourself financially.
Because your finances are the heart of your business, you must delegate this task to someone immediately if you don’t know anything about business taxes, profit and loss, or tracking daily expenses. If you don’t, your will pay for it on the back end.
The most important lesson I learned was I CAN NOT DO EVERYTHING ALONE. If you want to grow and scale your business, you MUST “come out of the kitchen”. You have to have to know your limitations and where you are most needed inside your business. All other tasks have to be divided and delegated to the appropriate people. Otherwise, you are going to run yourself crazy trying to handle everything by yourself.
I can’t take all the credit though. These lessons learned are not only because of experience but because of my AMAZING business mentor Tiffany Walker, of T.I.C.K’s Quality Events and Party rentals. She has taught me so much in this last year, that I would have to write a book just to thank her!
We’ve been impressed with Wealthy Place Design Studios LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a conglomerate of minority-owned flower shops that service a broad variety of clientele. We have offerings for “High-End Boutique arrangements” at Wealthy Place Design Studios. We have your “Everyday Arrangements” at Quin’s Florals and all customized arrangements that can be shipped at Daisy Carol’s Florals. We are currently working on a project to become the world’s “Go-to network” of florists. Stay tuned…
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Elementary school. My mom and dad has me dressed in three piece suits on a daily basis. I remember always being the topic of conversation and being able to make people smile and laugh at an early age.
