Hi Jasmin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my business with $500 I won from an instagram giveaway in 2020. I thought about spending the money on tangible things like clothes or shoes, but something in me wanted to try to see if I could turn the blessing into more.
I went on YouTube and looked up “businesses I can start with $500” and saw handmade cosmetics (specifically lip care items) were trending at the time. I spent hours watching videos, taking notes and learning various techniques so when I started buying the supplies to make products, I would lessen my chances of wasting them. I wanted to sell the best quality products I could and specifically products that work for all skin tones.
After 3-4 months of formulating, reformulating and teasing my release, I finally launched! Within my first 30 days I received my first international order to Australia. I continued to post and as handmade cosmetics started now going viral, more and more people would DM me on instagram asking where I got my products from, if they could buy tubes from me and wanting for my vendor information. This is how I fell into wholesaling – I began ordering bulk supplies from my personal vendors and selling them in smaller quantities in the United States for business owners who did not have hundreds to start. I began selling DIY lipgloss kits with the materials in 1 box to start your own lip care business from scratch for aspiring business owners or even as party favors and I’ve been doing this ever since. Over the span of the last 5 years I have built relationships and am now partnered with my own warehouse and team in China where have the resources to help shoppers start a professionally branded cosmetic business within 2 weeks. We have shipped over 10,000 orders across 25 countries, now offer branded items from lip care to face makeup and still maintain a 4.9-5 star rating across all platforms since my initial release in 2020.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Haha of course everything hasn’t been smooth sailing. I have had packages lost for months, had underwhelming launches where I purchased items my customers said they wanted just to get no orders on release day and more but I feel like every lesson I learned from those setbacks have shaped my business to where it is today.
