Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Flowers Mazyck.
Hi Jasmine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. However, I consider myself a native of Southfield, MI, Lansdale, PA, Chesterfield, MO, and Atlanta, GA. Many people would ask if my parents were in the military because of how often I moved around. That wasn’t the case for me.
My story began with watching my parents climb the corporate ladder, eventually propelling them to executive levels in their respective industries. This relentless pursuit often meant relocation. I was always the new kid had to adapt and find my place. Each move imprinted experiences and lessons that have formed the person I am today.
My most impactful move was to Atlanta, GA to attend Spelman College. Those four years imparted a level of confidence and fearlessness that enabled me to build a successful 17+ year career in management consulting at firms such as Deloitte and McKinsey & Company.
In 2021, while at McKinsey & Company, a call came from my aunt, Michelle Flowers Welch, founder and CEO of Flowers Communications Group), with the compelling proposition to join the family business that she started 32 years ago as part of the succession plan to eventually take over ownership in partnership with my cousin, Brinton Flowers. I took time to think and pray about it, but in my heart, I knew almost immediately that this was the sense of purpose that I was searching for. How could I say no?!
I received a lot of shock and awe when I told people that I was leaving McKinsey. But with a small percentage of small businesses surviving more than ten years and the survival rate of black-owned businesses even smaller, for me this was a greater calling to not only build a legacy for my family (I have a husband and three young children) but to also carry forward the vision and continue the unprecedented decades of success of a woman-owned, black-owned business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have a quote in my home gym that says, “if it does not challenge you, then it won’t change you.” I apply that to all facets of my life so to me, any road worth traveling should require you to be stretched and persevere to achieve something great. One of my challenges has simply been changing careers and industries at such a pinnacle point in my career in management consulting, which has required me to climb a steep learning curve and build trust, credibility, and relationship capital from the ground up.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Flowers Communications Group?

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
During my time in Landsdale, PA, I was a huge fan of Florence Griffith Joyner aka “Flo Jo”. I would wear hot pink gloves to the bus stop every morning to emulate her nails. I would race and convincingly beat everyone at the bus stop. I believe that is when my love for playing sports was born. My next move to Chesterfield, MO, was where sports took off for me. I became a competitive basketball player and track and field athlete, where I won the state championship in the long jump. It’s carried me into my present, as movement and fitness is integral to my daily routine and overall well-being.
