Exploring Life & Business with Jasmine Turner of The Airê Collection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Turner.

Hi Jasmine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
So my story really began at Spelman College in 2015. At Spelman, I was an English major but was also interested in business and cinematography. I was also determined to go to law school pretty early on in my Spelman journey. I loved Spelman so much and it truly shaped me into the woman I am today. I was able to have incredible experiences such as leading on-campus organizations, becoming a member of The Sweet Mu Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., working on Wall St, and other academic achievements. My senior year, I was able to get into Emory Law with a scholarship and set my sights to become a Sports & Entertainment Lawyer.

However, my time in law school was vastly different than my HBCU Spelman experience. Early on in law school, I knew that I did not truly want to become a lawyer. Throughout the two years in law school, I continued to lead on-campus organizations and achieve academic and professional success, however I was the unhappiest I had ever been. By my second year in law school, I suffered from anxiety attacks and depression. I had just received my offer from my dream law firm and I still continued to be unhappy.

It was a tough decision to leave law school. To turn down what I thought was a solid, lucrative, and prestigious career path for me. But in reality, law school was never for me. For one, I was in it for the money. I realized in law school I cannot be motivated by money. I was not interested in the subject matter of the classes and was purely motivated by the $200k I would make post law school. I learned I am passion-driven. If I am going to be staying up all night for something, I need to be passionate about it, not just because I am being paid a lot. Second, I didn’t have a why. When I would get asked why I wanted to be a lawyer, I would have to think about it for a minute. If you are truly passionate, you don’t have to think about it, it just comes to you. Lastly, I don’t want to look back on my life and say, “I wish I would’ve done this or this”. So I took a chance and left.

I was able to transfer into Emory’s Goizueta Business School and pivot myself to the business world. There I could actually take courses that were valuable and interesting to me like digital social media strategy, content marketing, entrepreneurship, etc.

While in business school, I started creating TikToks for fun. TikTok was the first social media platform that positively added to my life. It motivated me and I actually learned new things on the app. I wanted to contribute to this community. I started filming my morning routines, days in my life, and other vlog style videos. I was consistent, engaged with my community, and fell in love with filming, editing, and posting videos of my life which helped to motivate and inspire others. I finally had found my passion.

Today I am a full-time content creator and I am designing my own premium PJ wear line.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. Leaving law school was heartbreaking. I felt like I had failed and let people down. In those weeks, I didn’t know what I was going to do in my life. All I knew is that the moment I decided to leave, a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I was scared of what people would say, disappointing my mom, and what my next steps would be. I felt like I had upended my life. But it was single-handedly the best decision I have ever made.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Airê Collection. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The quick success of my TikTok has provided me the platform to start my own business, which is an incredible opportunity. In my TikTok videos, I am often in my PJs or my robes. People would always ask me where I got my PJs or my robe from and I would always mention other brands or companies. I began to think of what it would be like to have my own PJ line, and when people would ask me where I got my PJs, I could say my own brand.

The Airê Collection was born. Airê is a premium, multiuse nightwear line which combines accessibility and luxury. Our first collection, The Amina Feather Collection, features a double lined ostrich feather set, a one-of-a-kind satin stretch material, with inclusive sizes and colors. The price point is accessible providing access to the luxury, premium PJ market.

What sets Airê apart is three things. First the quality. Most feather PJs are single-lined feathers. Airê goes the extra mile to provide full, double lined ostrich feather look with minimal shedding or itching. Similarly, the fabric is a stretch satin which is breathable and moves with every body shape. Second, these PJs are multiuser and can be worn for so many different occasions and environments. Bridal parties, Bachelorette parties, birthdays, photoshoots, content creation, sleepovers, night outs, etc. Lastly, Airê’s story. Airê is a Black, Woman owned brand which strives to make women feel beautiful either in the comfort of their own home or a night out. These PJs are for “that girl” the “it” girl. The passion and love behind my business is what I was searching so hard for in law school. I cannot wait to provide women with that feeling of luxury in their own home.

I am so excited to launch The Airê Collection Summer of 2022.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Some of my favorite books are both by Brianna Wiest. They are “The Mountain Is You” and “101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think.” My favorite app is of course TikTok because it has been one of the only social media platforms that actually contributes to my life and motivates me. My editing apps for TikTok only include CapCut which is great for editing. I also love the apps TrueBill and Notion for financial tracking and organization.

Pricing:

  • $175 per PJ for The Amina Feather Collection
