Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenecia Brown.
Hi Jenecia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jenecia Brown, but I go by BabyDol. I am from Mississippi but have been a resident of the Atlanta, Georgia area for almost 5 years now. I had always dreamed of doing hair and making music since I was a little girl. I started doing makeup and hair when I was in high school. I did hair makeup for models and special occasions even before I got my cosmetology license under the business name Divalishis Studios. I obtained my master cosmetology license in 2022, and I worked in a couple different salons but realized I did better running my own business. I started offering mobile salon services, and had a salon suite which did not meet my needs like I thought. Therefore, I kept offering mobile services. I am currently trying to secure a salon suite location before the end of the year. As far as my music, I am a singer/songwriter and have been professionally since 2010. I absolutely love music, and I specialize in R&B but I am versatile to other genres as well. I am currently working on trying to release an EP before the end of the summer of this year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road for me on this journey pursuing my dreams. There were times I thought I was so close to making everything I wanted happen, and it didn’t. However, I was not ready for it then. I needed to learn a lot more. I have trusted people who were envious or jealous or just really not for me. I believe sometimes there is a part of life where you have to isolate yourself from anything negative in order to grow. I had to get to a point where I didn’t care what other people thought of me. I cared to please other people while dimming down my talent. I refuse to do that now. I have had financial struggles recently with securing housing for my kids and I because I am a single mother and there is no father, no support from family or friends and that is ok. I believe that my creator takes care of us and will bring everything I need when the time is right. This economy is really going through it right now, everyone is. The only thing I can do is keep positive, keep my faith, and keep pushing forward no matter how heavy the load is. I am doing things the right way, and I know my time will come. I keep saying that every day. It is not easy. I cry, I break down, I wonder sometimes should I still be trying so hard because I’m only human. However, even in the worst of times, even now with everything that piled on me at once, and I even debated about doing this article, I still had faith. I have faith my help will come, that I will get my breakthrough with my business and music and personal life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I offer mobile salon services until I can secure a salon suite again. I specialize in color (which includes blonding) and cuts and styles. I am diverse and am skilled for all types of hair. I also offer manicure/pedicure services and makeup/styling services as well. I am most proud of the quality of service that I can provide and I see it growing into what I aspire my business to be. My goal is to have my own franchise of Salons and relaunch my brand Body by Baby which is a skin care line that will lead to a cosmetics line and haircare line. I also plan to have a nonprofit organization that I can offer a free beauty service, outfit and shoes and a food basket to single parents, domestic abuse shelters and homeless shelters. To those that have been following my story, I didn’t even think I would have the opportunity again to share, and I appreciate you all so much. I hope this is helping inspire someone. I am not where I want to be as far as my goals, but I am still striving towards them, no matter the pain, no matter the cost of sacrifice. I believe we all have a purpose in this life, and nothing worth having comes easy. My faith is in my creator, and I am in tears as I write this because It is really really hard right now. However, I stand in my truth, and I stand strong, because it is always darkest before the sun rises. I know my victory has to be near….
