Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Le.
Hi Jeremy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As an entrepreneur in the healthcare industry for several years, I grew disheartened by the lack of impact I saw patients receiving. This led me to search for a new opportunity where I could make a greater difference in individuals’ well-being. By chance, a friend introduced me to the idea of dementia care in a more intimate setting.
After a year of research and meeting with people living with dementia, I felt drawn to the senior housing industry. In December of 2017, we launched our small personal care home model and experienced early success. However, when we opened our second location a year later, we faced resistance from neighbors who did not want our care homes in their area. Despite these challenges, we persevered and overcame the pushback.
Although COVID greatly impacted our business early on, we were able to continue growing in the past few years due to a high demand for more personalized and intimate care settings. As a result, our services are now in higher demand than ever before.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We faced neighbors who didn’t want us in their neighborhoods. During COVID, we struggled with finding PPE and cost of labor skyrocketing. We are small so lots of things fell on me as the owner to figure out.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Albert’s House specializes in providing exceptional care for high-needs residents, particularly those who are aging out of assisted living facilities and wish to avoid nursing homes. Our reputation in the industry stems from our ability to accommodate individuals with complex medical conditions, behavioral issues, and a high risk of falls – those who larger communities may struggle to care for.
We recognize that personal issues can sometimes affect the performance of our caregivers while at work. Therefore, our company culture is centered on a holistic approach that prioritizes supporting our team’s personal growth and development. We offer personal development courses and financial literacy training to help our team thrive both inside and outside of work.
I am most proud of the culture that we have developed the past years.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
During COVID, we made the tough decision to not allow families to visit their loved ones. So we learned the importance of overcommunicating with our families. We made it a point to make sure to send pictures and videos of our residents to families so they knew how their loved ones were doing. We have continued to make this protocol and have learned that it gives our families peace of mind.
On the business side, we learned the importance of banking relationships. As a small business, we have learned the importance of working with smaller community banks.
