Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessi Rush.
Hi Jessi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My favorite childhood memories were centered around Allstar Cheerleading, so when my daughter fell in love with the sport, I couldn’t wait for her to experience the same magic that shaped so much of my own life. When we realized there still wasn’t an Allstar program in our area, we saw it as an opportunity to build something special — a program grounded in faith and centered on our core values of family and community.
From the very beginning, we built our culture around Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” That verse has become the heartbeat of our gym — a reminder that we’re stronger together, and that the best teams are built not just on skill, but on character and connection.
What started with 17 athletes in our very first season quickly grew to 72 in season two, and now, as we prepare for season six, we’re home to 130 Allstar athletes. Even more meaningful than the growth in numbers is the loyalty and bond within our gym family — about 40% of the athletes who joined us in season two are still competing with us today. Watching them grow over the years — not just as athletes, but as leaders, teammates, and confident young women — has truly been one of my greatest blessings.
Opening a cheer gym wasn’t originally part of my career plan — in fact, I tried really hard not to do it! But after many prayers, and a conversation with my former coach, one of the best in the business, I left with the confidence to take the leap and the faith to figure the rest out along the way. I still remember calling my husband on the drive home, knowing deep down this was what I was meant to do.
Our very first season families will always hold a special place in my heart. They took that leap of faith right alongside me, and together we started what has become so much more than a cheer program — it’s a community, a family, and a home where iron truly sharpens iron.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any journey worth taking, ours hasn’t always been smooth — but every challenge has shaped us into who we are today. One of the biggest struggles has been finding balance: creating practice schedules that support competitive excellence in a sport that depends so heavily on attendance, while still protecting our athletes’ time to just be kids. We believe in maintaining a healthy rhythm — one that prevents burnout and allows our athletes to enjoy school cheer, field trips, and family time. Those experiences matter, too. We’ve always said we’re a family first, and that means raising well-rounded athletes who know how to balance commitment with joy.
As we’ve grown, managing different school and cheer schedules has become more complex, but we’ve learned to adapt. We use technology, creativity, and teamwork to make the most of our time together and keep pressing forward.
Our growth itself has also been a challenge to stay ahead of — expanding programs, adjusting plans, and learning as we go. But those are good problems to have. What I’m most proud of is that through it all, we’ve stayed true to our mission and values. We haven’t chased trends or taken shortcuts. We’ve stayed grounded in what matters most: trust, hard work, consistency, and team.
Michael Jordan said it best: “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” That’s exactly how we approach every challenge — as athletes, coaches, and people. Struggles are simply opportunities to grow, adjust, and move forward. That’s not just how we cheer — that’s how we live.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Bremen Steel Sports, we believe in building more than great athletes — we’re building strong, confident, and resilient young people. Our gym is known for its family atmosphere, where every athlete is valued not just for what they can do on the mat, but for who they are as a person. We care deeply about their mental health, their character, and their overall well-being. Watching our athletes grow up right before our eyes — learning, leading, and finding their confidence — is one of the greatest privileges of what we do. My prayer has always been that when they look back on their time in the Steel Family, they remember it as a place that taught them they can accomplish anything they set their mind to.
While the world often sees Allstar cheer through the lens of glitz, glamour, and sparkling uniforms, we know that what truly defines this sport is the hard work behind the scenes. Our athletes train year-round — through the Georgia heat, in a gym without air conditioning — and they show up with grit, determination, and heart. Yes, we shine bright on competition days, but it’s the sweat, effort, and consistency on every ordinary day that make those moments possible.
Our brand reflects that toughness and discipline. It’s forged in hard work, faith, and family — and it shows in everything we do. I’m incredibly proud of our coaching staff who truly live out our motto, “iron sharpens iron.” It’s not just something we say to our athletes — we hold ourselves to it, too. Our team constantly works to grow personally and professionally, supporting each other through life’s ups and downs. We push each other to be better — not just as coaches, but as people.
And our athletes? They embody everything we stand for. They’re disciplined, resilient, and full of grit and grace. They lift each other up, celebrate each other’s successes, and would go to battle for one another. They’re the reason our program is what it is today.
At Bremen Steel Sports, we offer Allstar Cheerleading, tumbling, stretch classes, private lessons, school cheer training, and athletic development programs serving over 200 families. But at the heart of it all, what we really offer is a community — a place where athletes and families can belong, grow, and become stronger together.
When you’re part of the Steel Family, you’re part of something that lasts far beyond the competition floor.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Our success comes from a mix of faith, hard work, consistency, and a commitment to our athletes and team culture. Every decision we make is guided by these principles. Faith gives us purpose, hard work and consistency drive growth, and a supportive team culture ensures everyone lifts each other up.
It’s not about shortcuts or easy wins — it’s about showing up every day, holding true to our values, and helping each other grow. That combination is what allows our athletes to thrive, not just on the mat, but in life.
